I wanted to see this so bad...

And as a lover of Beethoven, I really enjoyed Immortal Beloved. Even tho it was not historically accurate, Immortal Beloved had a few facts. This turd of a movie just completely missed the mark. Making this dumb girl "Correct" Beethoven and lead him on conducting. Tsk tsk tsk. Never happened. he didn't even conduct the 9th when it premiered. Ed Harris came off more like the controller guy in Apollo 13 than a 19th century composer. But for all its flaws, it just wasn't good. The story was sub par, The chopped the end performance of the 9th so horribly. Anyways...I think I've said enough. But my opinion is, skip this and watch Immortal Beloved again. GARY OLDMAN is the ultimate Beethoven.

No, Beethoven is the ultimate Beethoven. I love his music too and am studying his life so I know that both films are innacurate. However any opportunity to hear his music, is for me, not to be missed. Yes they only played parts of the 9th symphony, there wouldn't have been time to play the whole thing, and no Beethoven didn't conduct as he was completely deaf by that time but I wouldn't say it was all bad. Maybe as I had never heard of Ed Harris and didn't know the kind of films he is usually in I had no pre-conceived ideas about him. I thought he did a good job. Yes the story of Anna the copyist isn't true but it explored a tender side of a man who is often portrayed as a woman-hater. (After all the story of Beethoven's love for Johanna in Immortal Beloved is only a story which no-one knows the truth of) I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it and even though I did I can see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone. I have only been passionate about Beethoven for a fairly short time. (Approx 3 years) but in that time have been to 2 concerts (another one coming up soon!) and am building a collection of his works. All started when I went to see Copying Beethoven. I had to know more, hear more! If that can happen to me then maybe it will spark interest in others. I hope so.
