Seems to never be talked about -- the friend, Schuman (I believe)

So a character that seems to never, ever be brought up--and admittedly, he is only on the screen briefly and is underdeveloped (at least in the film)--is the friend/sometime dealer character, Schuman. He's there the first time candy shoots up, a few other times, the wedding, later once he's shaved his head he sells them some dope. I thought he was an interesting character, but the main thing to talk about is the odd but interesting scenes with him at the wedding reception--his fixation on the little girl, seeming to relate to her above everyone else. Was this merely to suggest he was child-like, or actual attraction??

Probably both. But in a innocent manner. He is obviously judged by the adults around him but Jenny is happy talking with him. Who would you chat with? Your judgmental aunt or your younger cheerful cousin? (Most of us have been in similar situations, excluding the drug theme of course)

Very true, and in fact I find myself often enjoying more talking to kids (not super young ones, but once they reach the age where they can have semi-intelligent conversation) than to the stuffier "What will you do with your life?" relatives. I just thought it was an interesting note with Schuman, since the movie seems to focus on it so much, and in a film, nothing is coincidental when it's zeroed in on in that fashion

Heroin steals your soul and passions so he was very interested in this soulful, passionate little girl. He could have been like that when he was a child, but heroin *beep* that all up.
