Constructive thoughts . . . maybe
Zuzuu and Shmeep, I need your help!
I wanted to enter this post here, and over at the Yahoo "Blind Justice" group. When I tried at Yahoo, however, I hit the wrong button or did something stupid (techno-idiot that I am), and my post went winging off into the ether and never showed up. So please, please, I would be eternally grateful if either one of you could copy this and post it for me over there. And Zuzuu, please share with us here at ImdB your INCREDIBLE posts on the Marty/Jim relationship. "If Marty had been Jim's partner the day at the bank would have ended, very, very differently?" Amazing, and so right.
Here's what I wanted to say, to you all:
This has been a tough week, to say the least. And while letters and online petitions will make our feelings known . . . how good, really, is the chance that ABC will reconsider their callous and shortsighted (pun intended) decision? Not very, I'm afraid. Did any of you out there read the accounts of Stephen MacPherson, ABC's President of Entertainment, on Tuesday in New York, crowing about his new fall schedule? This, folks, is what ABC axed "Blind Justice" and a number of other programs to make room for: Geena Davis as the first woman President; a redo of the old "Kolchak the Night Stalker"program from the 70s; "Lost" sci-fi and CSI clones. (May they all sink like the "Titanic.") And, to add insult to injury, Jimmy Kimmel was on hand making bad "Blind Justice" jokes: "We put on a show about a blind cop and nobody saw it." Ouch.
Does it look like they're going to reconsider?
So here's what I'm wondering.
The Emmy nominations come out in . . . hazy here, so help me . . . July? How about a petition and letter-writing campaign to the Emmy nominating committee? I know that Emmy voters rec'd a DVD with the pilot of BJ and the first two episodes. (Yeah, Zuzuu, we're both sorry they didn't get "Marlon's Brando" and "Seoul Man," or, my favorite still, "Up on the Roof." (God, that moment when Dunbar pulls out the handkerchief and hold it up to Terry . . . .))
Here's my slate for actor nominations, and I'm hoping someone out there will tell me who we can reach with this. (I have to believe that the writing will get nominations, certainly the pilot, which was one helluva tight 40 minutes.) Here goes:
Ron Eldard for Best Actor in a Drama: Name another actor who turned in such nuanced and compelling work this season.
Frank Grillo for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama: A shoe-in, right? Michael Gaston and Reno Wilson both equally worthy, but did they garner enough screen time to qualify? Probably not.
Marisol Nichols for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama: Lovely work, strong and sweet.
Really, when you think about it, wouldn't it be the most satisfying slap in the face to ABC if BJ got a truckload of Emmy nominations . . . and even won a few?
