'Couldn't feel my blackness' lol Was jim putting Tom on?

It is kind of hard to believe that Jim didn't know
that Tom was black. Tom said he was surprised that
he couldnt feel his blackness, but actually Jim
did have one point he's blind.

However, patterns of speech , especially in linguistics,
sometimes give good indication as the background
of the speaker without seeing them. I know my
teacher has done these tests and many times we
can tell when a speaker is black or white.

However does anyone buy Jim's argument, I think even
though he is blind he'd be able to recognize
vocal patterns and see that Tom is black.

I'm pretty sure that Jim was putting Tom on. Did you see that small smile of Jim's as he was walking away?

reply

Jim likes to tease Tom. Remember the spider and snake comments about Dessert Storm? Of course Jim knew Tom was black. It cracks me up that Tom is still never sure if Jim is teasing or not.

Jim was pulling his leg! He had a funny little smile as he walked away & Tom was behind him & couldn't see!

I just love those little moments... sigh.

Like: "Hey Christie. What do you think about a pottery class? .....Hello?"

LOLOL!!

Of course Jim knew Tom was black -- that's what makes last night's exchange so funny!

Remember Episode 4, "Up on the Roof"? Everyone's back in the squadroom, and Glen Semple, Terry Jansen's "fat hump of a partner," leans over to Sellway and says, "Hey, kid, this is your chance to shine. Black-on-black crime."
And Tom responds, "Yeah, well, I guess if we get a fat-on-fat crime you'll be all over that one." And Dunbar, who was taking a dish of water to Hank, straightens up, listens, and just grins.

God, how I love this show!

Jim sold the put-on so well that he shook Tom's confidence about his 'blackness'.

Tom: You couldn't feel my blackness?!
Jim: I just thought you were...groovy.
Tom: Groovy??!!

Too funny!

"Situation like this, there's a high potentiality for the common m$@%*rf^&!#r to bitch out."

reply

Yeah you guys are right and yeah this show does rock,
how can it get cancelled? It's one of the best things on
ABC besides Desperate Housewives and Alias.
