Sorry to say.....

Again, after last night's episode, I feel only sadness that the show isn't being renewed. What intelligent writing, subtleties, complexities of character. I can only hope that someone at ABC (or the cable networks, as mentioned previously) realizes this and picks it up for the fall. Such a shame that blatantly DUMB shows continue....

You know, "Blind Justice" was just too sophisticated and different for a traditional broadcast network from the get-go. It was a show for grownups, and maybe that's what sealed its fate.

You could even make the case, reading between the lines, that Stephen Bochco knew this from the beginning. After all, since when does a network put up a new Bochco drama mid-season instead of in the fall, and with an order for only 13 episodes? (Full season order is something like 20, I believe.) Maybe this freed the BJ writers and production team to be as creative and layered and "out there" as they wanted to be, for once. Bochco did say in an interview early on that "Dunbar would come to embrace his blindness by the end of the 13-episode arc" -- does that sound like they really expected a second season? It's something to think about, and it takes away a little, just a little, of the sting.

The saddest thing for me was reading on one of the Yahoo boards that someone called Bochco Productions on Monday, who not only confirmed the cancellation but said that "there was no chance of it going to another network." Did they mean ABC, CBS, and Fox, or was cable included in that statement?

So write those letters, anyway. Listen, Bochco has a deal with FX for a new drama about the war in Iraq called "Over There." Anyone know who the head of programming is at FX? Should we start writing letters to him?

Thoughts, anyone?

And yeah, there were so many great moments in "Dance With Me." But I have to say (LOL) that the scene where Dunbar explained how a blind man pees standing up just reinforces my contention that this was NEVER gonna fly that long on a network like ABC.

Sigh.

>>Okay, I have to do some work. If nobody starts a "Dance With Me" thread by the time I get back I guess I'll have to! <<

whoa,, it's there,, i started it late last nite,, i was so confused,,as election updates kept interrupting,,
it's about the 5th thread down,,

as far as the ball room dancing,, they should've put a blind fold on christy,, and let her get a sample of his uneasiness,,
all in all,, great show,,loved the joking w/ tom,, but just get more bummed knowing there are only two more episodes,,

I'm loathe to say the sky is falling, but what can be said about American pop-culture tendencies, when news of Blind Justice being cancelled is confirmed the same week yet another vapid 'reality' show, following subjects even less worthy of attention, Britney and Kevin's Chaotic, premieres?

"Situation like this, there's a high potentiality for the common m$@%*rf^&!#r to bitch out."

Great points, jkendaljr, which got me thinking (uh oh, she's thinking again -- hand rubs chin, LOL). The broadcast networks the past several years have been loathe to run reruns of popular series, instead giving limited run series a tryout -- like Grey's Anatomy & Eyes. And thinking about HBO, Showtime, etc., don't they usually order 13 episodes per season (a la Sopranos & Six Feet Under)? Maybe Bochco did a self-contained 13 episode run not only for ABC, but in the tradition of HBO to sell to the international market. Just a thought...

And yes, bring on the DVDs, with outtakes & deleted scenes, please!!

I agree totally. I am leary of even starting to watch any new shows this coming fall as the good ones will undoubtedly get cancelled. This is my favorite new show just edging out CSI:NY. Ron Eldard does an amazing job and aside from him carrying the gun this was not that far fetched. I will miss this show and am kicking myself for not saving all the episodes after I watched them all on TIVO. Hopefully they will release the series on DVD for us fans, who will watch the thirteen episodes we were given with fond memories.

Agreed. I have a SERIOUS lack of faith in ABC as a network. I CAN NOT BELIEVE that Desperate Housewives is continuing and Blind Justice is cancelled. So disappointing. (Sorry to those of you who like Desperate Housewives, but I don't). My disappointment only increased after last night's episode...it was a wonderful episode. I actually had to leave the room at one point to avoid kicking my TV in frustration b/c the show has been cancelled (had I not broken my toe on Monday, I probably WOULD have kicked the TV). I'm so frustrated =O(

well the reason DH is still on is based on ratings... alot more people watch taht show than Blind Justice... also i think Alias and Lost are great ABC shows... i think it was too bad for Blind Justice, since they couldn't live up to the same expectations/ratings, taht DH and Lost brought to ABC...

message to TONYSNOW:
sadly the jerk is right about it being cancelled... networks are so impatient nowadays...

NYPD was terrible!

Sipowicz sucked... Dennis Franz was basically Jason Alexander from Seinfeld...

i mean come on, how believable is it to have a short, fat, balding cop... a blind cop who's in great shape, is much more believable, than a cop like Sipowicz who would collapse after running 10 feet...

Blind Justice is much better...

TONYSNOW you are a loser, and the only reason you probably liked NYPD Blue, is cuz you are middle aged, fat, bald, and short just like Sipowicz...

Speaking of Lost...I'm seriously considering no longer watching it after this season. I am so not happy with ABC right now that I'm considering a personal boycott of the network. I used to watch nothing BUT ABC and now the only 2 shows I watch are Blind Justice and Lost. Blind Justice got cancelled. Lost may lose me as a result. I know it won't make any difference b/c so many people watch Lost, but I'm so seriously annoyed right now =O(

It was a pretty original show, but certainly knew it was going to be canceled pretty quickly. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

Hey champ, do what I do and click on "ignore this user" when you see a post by TonySnow and anyone else who irritates you. Then you never have to read their drivel ever again because IMDB automatically blocks it for you!

Ya know, I can't believe another great show got cancelled. But, wait yes I can. How many more, freaking (nice language compared to what I wanted to say) reality shows can they put on TV. I mean it is all BS. I hate all, and I mean all reality shows. Survivor, Amazing Race, etc. The closest thing to one of those shows I like is Fear Factor, only because you can the cables, and wires. On survivor, and others they try to make it out to be about who is best at Outwit, Outlast, Outplay. Ok, let’s see here you take a bunch of whiney asses, out and make sure nothing really dangerous (other than sunburn or a hangnail) happens to them. Then try to play it up as entertainment. It is all fake, just like **gasp** wrestling. Everyone knows that it is choreographed, but they continue to watch. At least they don't play wrestling up to being real. Sorry wrestling fans. ;)

I prefer to watch a show about something that could feasibly be true, i.e. Blind Justice, where they are trying to show that just because someone has a disability, that they can still function at almost or 100% as anyone else. That there is hope for someone, with a disability, to live the life they want. Maybe that it isn't exactly the way they wanted it, but any day above ground is a good day.

I like other shows that are more hard core like The Shield, but at the same time I love to watch Smallville with my wife. I just wish these TV EXECS would crawl out of whatever hole they live in and watch the dribble that they are putting on the air for everyone (hump, yeah right) to watch. I am only 25 and I prefer to watch reruns of Andy Griffith, and some of the stuff on TV Land, over the crap they feed us on network TV nowadays.
Sorry for the long post, but I been keeping that locked up for, well as long as the Real World has been on. They are the ones to blame for all of this crap.

Unfortunately, the cold hard truth is that TV is a business. Look at the production values of BJ plus location shooting in NY. And Bochco, rightly so, is going to make a lot of money himself as its his show. It's one helluva expensive show to produce. Compare it to "reality" TV (gag -- I want to watch REAL actors) which is very cheap in comparison.
