Episode 13: 'Fancy Footwork' June 21

My TV Guide (Virginia edition) lists the following description for "Fancy Footwork" on June 21:

In the series finale, a boxing promoter is killed, and three possible suspects emerge: his girlfriend; a damaged fighter that he didn't want in the ring; and his nephew (who was also his business partner). Last first-run episode of the season.

Thanks... I only hope we can see it here in the Northeast.

I don't think they'll show it, at least not before bedtime. Remember the NBA is playing and there will be a Game 6 that night, owing to the fixing (that's what I said). You know the network conspired with the NBA to keep the series going.

It is NOT heresy, I WILL NOT RECANT!

According to the listings on the web sites of the ABC stations in San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles, these stations will show "Fancy Footwork" on Tuesday, June 21, at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time, after the basketball game. So there is hope that at least some of us will get to see the episode next Tuesday.

Yes, the ABC station here frequently runs a local newscast after a game. But because of the time difference, there is still time for them to do that and still show a program at 10 p.m. [The regular late local news comes on at 11 p.m. here]. Last night's overtime game ended just before 9:30 Pacific Time. My local station did a very brief local news break, then went to whatever programming ABC had scheduled for after the game. I'm hoping the same will be true on Tuesday. The station's own web site says it is showing "Blind Justice" at 10 p.m., and I'm hopeful they know what they are broadcasting on their own station.

reply

Just as I thought, after the game, they had news, and then My Wife & Kids, then more news then Nightline. And we're on Pacific time. So, no Blind Justice for us.
I hope it was a good ep. Did it end as if there were going to be more, or did it end like there weren't?

It was shown in some markets on the West Coast.
From what I read, they wraped up the series nicely.
You can probably get a copy, but you'll have to look for it.
I'm hoping for one myself.
What I don't understand is why couldn't ABC have shown the last "Blind Justice" tonight (Wednesday) instead of a "SuperNanny" rerun?

reply

Why can't they just show it on the 28th?

reply

Because they are starting a mini-series then. It's about the Roman Empire, I think.
I'm not watching it so I might be wrong.
It doesn't pay to get interested in anything on ABC.
You see how they treat viewers. They can't even let the whole country see the last episode. That's just wrong and then some.

reply

I should have known better than to start watching a show on ABC. It just seems like they CANCEL more shows than anybody else.

Didn't show in Seattle, either.

reply

it wasn't shown in new york. it was listed in tuesday's paper as being on that night, but then they had a basketball game to show and it was scrapped. i hope it airs at some point, i'd love to see it. i'm also hoping for a DVD release someday. alot of short-lived shows, including some damn good ones, are getting a new life on DVD.

they musta hit it off, i'm the livin proof."

reply

The same thing happened here (Maryland). I, too, am hoping for a DVD release...I really should know better than to waste my time with shows on ABC, but I just never learn =o)

I'd like to know where you heard this and this is complete
and utter rubbish, the last episode "Fanch Footwork" which
I have copy being from Calfornia, did not wrap up nicely
at all, in fact, it really doesn't solve anything except
Jim's decision about carryng his gun but even that left
open some questions. In fact, watching the episode over
again, there was still anonymosity against Jim in the office
by Marty and others, so it's not like Jim really solved
all of his issues.

reply

Well, I wrote that before I saw it, but have seen it now, and though it did leave some issues, the gun was resolved, and Christy and Jim were on their way to patching up their marriage.
Jim was in a good place, and he was going to be OK.
I loved that they ended it with a kiss.
That was a happy ending.

Of course we could go to a second season. They could get a devorce, and he could become a drunk. Don't drink and walk.
And since he's an ex-boxer, he could kill somebody with his fists, and go on trial.
Hey, since Marty and Jim don't get along, let it be Marty.
He could get together with Karen, then ruin her/his career, if they had a falling out.
I think Tom might be OK, unless they get into his pill taking.
Fisk will just go with the flow.

reply

True, I realized you posted your response before watching the
episode, but the episode leaves many questions open.

The series needed another season to close in some serious
gaps.

Marty was badgering Jim early on about losing the gun, they
were hardly being supportive, it's not until he decided
to give up, when they gave him a half baked reception.

Imagine therefore,if a second season was made, what would happen,
if Jim was caught in a crossfire picking up a suspect
with Karen, and she got hit and he was without a gun?
The department would have to rethink their policy and
their hard feelings towards Jim.

Would Marty and Jim go at it again? Of course, maybe Marty
would get reassigned after Jim had enough of his b.s.
A close relationship with Jim and Karen would be obvious.
His wife would get sick of worrying about him as a cop's
wife then leave him. Yeah it was a happy ending I agree
but to many issues left unresolved.

reply

Of course the series was not going to be wrapped up in a fancy bow. We shot all 13 episodes before even one aired. We wrapped about 2 weeks before the premiere, so the expectation was for episode 13 to be the SEASON finale, not series. It's just a shame ABC never gave the show a chance to find its legs and make improvements and the necessary changes with a second season. I think given another year, this show could have become a great cop show.

Well said, miketsucalas! But I take exception to the part about "becoming" a great show -- in my opinion, it already was.
