Finally - some recognition for her talents.

I have commented to my wife several times over the last few years that Cheri Oteri must have really PO'd Lorne Michael's or something, to be shunned when it came to "The Best Of..." series. They have the Best of Chevy Chase for God's sake... Talk about false advertising. Or maybe that really WAS his best. Thank goodness someone came to their senses and compiled this Best Of Cheri Oteri (although I haven't seen it yet).

Cheri Oteri was the funniest female player on the show in it's 31 year history (not to segregate). Although there have been some almost equals, she consistently made us howl. She's as talented as Will Ferrel, Chris Farley, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers etc and yet like most talented funny women, Hollywood relegates them to shallow supporting roles. They give the "comedic" roles to Julia Roberts, Renee Zellwegger, Sandra Bullock... who know nothing of comedy and have a laundry list of movies to prove it.

Isn't it about time Tina Fey (or someone...) wrote an uproarious comedy starring Molly Shannon, Oteri, Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler et al and allowed these women some space to perform? Haven't we seen enough of the Owen Brothers and Will Ferrel? If you want an actress to play a housewife or a real estate agent, hire Meryl Streep. If you want an actress to lay down some real hilarity, hire Oteri.

I can't wait to see this DVD. It's been a LONG time coming. I don't own any Best Of...SNL DVD's but I'd buy this one without hesitation.

You are so RIGHT! I have been telling my friends for Years that Cheri was the BEST thing to happen to SNL, she is amazing at physical comedy and i got so sick of watching actresses who were considered "funny" only to be utterly dissapointed. Oteri is COMEDY.

Do you know why she left SNL?

I think the contract is only for 5 years, so she probably just decided to leave after that. Some do stay on for a couple more years, but it just depends.

I think that the recent batch of female comedians are the best since Gilda Radner in the original cast. I love Cheri, Molly, Ana, Tina, Rachel and Amy. They are all so great and hilarious.

I agree, Cheri was by far the best female cast member on SNL, ever. Actually, I think she's my favorite cast member both male and female, because she's consistently funny. Even if the skit itself isn't hilarious, she at least makes it watchable. She definitely needs to be in more movies, as lead characters.

I agree COMPLETELY. The only problem is most of the movie scripts Tina Fey has written are produced by Lorne Michaels. I'm not sure why Lorne and Cheri ended badly but for some reason I guess they did. I really wish there were more scripts for talents like Cheri's or at least that hopefully somewhere in the however distant future there will be a 'Best of Cheri Oteri - Part Two'.
