Better than Clerks.

What does everyone think? I think the budget and the fact that it was in colour make it better than the first one. The dialogue and plot were of equal quality.

It's close, but I give this one a slight edge.

Take it easy Charlie. I've got an ANGLE.

This. The climax in the jail cell is much better than the climax of the original even though I LOVED the original.

I liked clerks better. Clerks is so 90s whereas clerks II has the misfortune of being associated with the abomination that is the 2000s decade.

reply

I think when time passes by, the second one will come to represent that era like the first one does with the 1990s.

I honestly think it already does. The 2000's already feel like a different time in retrospect

Clerks will always have a special place in my heart :P But, I love Clerks II almost as much, both are really good movies though.

It's apples and oranges for me. I love both for very different reasons. The only other film in Smith's filmography that comes close to the Clerks films would be Chasing Amy.

reply

Yeah it reminds me of Friday vs Next Friday.

Friday is great cause it was the not done before original and had some grit, same as Clerks.

The sequels are the updated, shined up versions that they had a decade to work on and a much larger budget.

Clerks II all the way. So much funnier than the first.

reply

I don't think Id say funnier than the first, but it was certainly a lot more interesting and enjoyable. Certainly a better script.

reply

Hard to say...I think they're very different movies. Clerks does have funnier dialogue (not that the dialogue in Clerks II isn't funny, just not as good), but the characters are all more likeable in the second film. I don't think Dante, Randal, or the love interests came off as likable in the first film.

reply

I like both, but I definitely prefer the first one.

First one to me seemed more realistic.
Clerks II def seemed like it was goin for more jokes and thats fine and all as most of them worked but then things like the huge dance scene to abc by jackson 5 just didnt make sense.
Also unlike the first one, they clearly make emma seem like a b**** (like at the end where shes wearin a black turtleneck, black = evil har har!) also emma wasnt that good lookin. So it was like "No duh of course he should get with becky!"
Where as Veronica and Kaitlyn, both seemed believable that dante would have a hard time choosing!
Again tho, Clerks II does has good stuff, like at the end where they are at prison, that was done really well.
So Clerks II is pretty good but Clerks is more classic to me.

I like both films but if I had to choose I would say the first film because of it's 1990s feel and all. The second one was released in 2006 which wasn't a good year for me and plus it's set in the 2000s which pales compared to the 1990s.
