Song at End - Don't Walk Away

The song playing while Ethan and Leo kissed at the end was "Don't Walk Away" sung by Audra Bonacki. Does anyone know anything about her or where you could get this song? It was wonderful; I can't find it anywhere.

So glad you liked it!!!

Audra was a true find for us on the film. The song was written by our composer, Roy Firestone, with some suggestions by director George Bamber and Co-Producer Paul Coyne.

We first heard the song when a male friend of Roy's sang it to us and although a male voice would seem to work better with the film's content, somehow the romance and melancholy of the tune were missing. We knew we needed to hear it with a female voice.

I attempted to contact an ex-girlfriend singer to no avail. Finally I contacted a writer friend of mine who's a live music junkie. I asked if, in his concert-going, he had made friends with any singers who would sing our song so we could see if we liked it better with a female voice.

He said he didn't but that he had a friend in Germany who was a singer and would possibly know someone. The call was placed to Germany and his friend said he knew of a gal who was just starting out, was working days in an office or car dealership or something in Los Angeles, but had a lovely voice. This was Audra Bonacki.

We gave her a call out of the blue and she said she'd be happy to sing it for us. We met at Roy's house and we handed her the lyrics. Roy played her the tune and she said she was ready.

By the time she was done, we knew not only that it needed to be a female voice, but that Audra was the perfect voice for the song.

When we recorded the song a few days later (a personal thrill for me!) Roy expertly directed her through a few takes and she sounded perfect. A bit too perfect. She was singing it so spot-on to our direction that it was missing an edge. So we told her to forget everything we had told her and to just sing the song with her heart and not her head.

That's the version that's in the film. I love the song. She also did versions where she hummed it but that last version is something we are all proud of. She nailed it for us.

And I know she'll be thrilled to read your comment. She's a wonderful person and was a gift to our film.

Also - The song was written for the movie and hasn't been released on CD as of yet.

Thanks for the great information. I appreciate you forwarding my compliments to Audra B. It was her voice that really moved me. If it becomes available, or she releases a CD, I'd love to get it. I'll be looking for her name in the future. Thanks again.

One other song question: What was the second to last song being played on the credits. It was the song following the "Don't Walk Away" song?

reply

The song that first comes up over the closing credits is XO, performed by Teddy's Cheer Club, a local L.A. band.

Audrey Capotosta and Mike Benicke headline the band and write the songs. Audrey is also an editor and assistant editor and has worked with me on several TV productions. (Her voice can also be heard in the film as the off-screen voice of Gayhomoqueernancyboy42's wife).

I knew of these songs (one also plays under the book-signing party scene) from the first CD the band released independently in 2005. They released another CD earlier this year.

We had tried several songs over the end credits, more in keeping tonally with other songs in the film, and nothing seemed to really work. I really liked XO and while listening to the lyrics in my car one day, I realized that not only did they fit the film thematically, but the song had enough energy to really kick the credits into gear.

Plus, it was so different than the other songs in the film that it really stood apart. I think it works well.

Unlike other songs recorded for the soundtrack, you can purchase Teddy's Cheer Club CD's online. Visit them at http://www.myspace.com/teddyscheerclub or http://www.teddyscheerclub.net

Tell them you heard them in Ethan Green!!!

Have you considered releasing it as a single for download on, say I-Tunes, and adding a link to the song on the official web site? Charge a nominal fee, and if you're not in it for the profit, donate the proceeds to a worthy, gay-related charity. Just a thought, as I know I'd be buying it!

Also, would it be possible for me to submit my demo CD to you for future consideration on other projects you're involved with? If so, how should I go about submitting it?

Thanks, and great job on the movie. It was really good!

Warmest regards,

Several years later, this movie finds itself being played on my dvd player in my living room. My roommate and I enjoyed the dramedy and thought it was campy (btw, very much enjoyed Daniel in CAMP as well!).

I love finding under-the-radar songs like Audra's --- hopefully this will be released soon?!
