this is a good movie by most standards but it is my favorite movie. i love movies. maybe thats why. but actually it has so many other things about it that intrigue me.

it is officially my favourite movie too now...being a 2nd generation chinese immigrant in a western country its really nice to see a movie made the period in which my parents grew up...i couldn't get over how good the child actors were...ALL OF THEM!
in hollywood, good ones are singled out but in this low budget movie, they are all fantastic and believable.

I agree with the above comments. It's a real story, not a cookie cutter formula with hyped actors, car chases, contrived love interests. It reminded me a bit of an Italian film from long ago called Cinema Paradiso -- in the child watching outdoor films in the 'old days'. Kudos to this production team and actors.
I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!
