Influence of italian neo-realism?

The movie's atmosphere kinda reminded me of films such as "Ladri di bicicletti" and other neo-realists italian films. Specially the under-acting and the simplicity of a story set in a place where the big issues are debated in between the lines.

It certainly has some of that feel to it.

Italian Neorealism has been cited as a major influence on New Wave Iranian Cinema in general. Specifically, the famous Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, who gave Ghobadi his first "big break," clearly integrates neorealist aesthetics throughout his body of work in innovative ways. I think that what is most interesting is the way that these directors are taking a European national cinematic tradition and modifying to meet their own needs.

the use of non-professional actors is another similarity

I'm proud to say my poetry is only understood by that minority which is aware.
