very upset about this.... SPOILER of course
I understand Agrin's issue with her child and wanting to leave this world and her life behind. But what I dont get is why kill him and herself? Why kill the child - when she said herself someone would care for him if she and her brother left. She then tries to save the child by tying him to a tree in hopes someone would find him (or at least I think - someone mentioned she tied him to a minefield which of course would translate totally differently - but I dont remember seeing mines around - I thought he came untied and wandered there)
Anyway some people also mentioned that she killed the child for the sake of her brother but I actually think he WAS capable of caring for him. It would have been difficult - but he already proved he could - taking off the child's bandage, carrying him, picking him up etc. Plus the child was getting older too - the baby phase was coming to an end.
I just felt that her suicide would be enough. I know that sounds brutal - Im just saying why kill this child when she was going to leave this world anyway. We knew this would happen as did she because of the many attempts throughout the film. UNLESS (and Im just thinking this now) she tried so many times before but having him dead was the only way she could actually go through with it. When she was in the water she saved herself when she saw him (Im still wondering if it was really him or her imagination - because he was asleep when she returned). So maybe even though she desired death so much - it was he who was keeping her alive and when he was dead she could finally die as well.....
Which now leads me to think more into the mind of the writer of the film and ask why couldnt he have been saved. As viewers it was like our minds were toyed with. This child is first abandoned in the middle of nowhere - but he's found pretty quickly (and in a good mood). Im sure we all thought he was killed by the mine - but he wasnt even hurt. Then we see the premonition of him being drowned and I dont think Im alone in thinking (hoping) that he would be saved from that as well. So why couldnt/wouldnt he have been saved a third time - (thats where it seemed like it was going) he had a uncle who could see into the future for crying out loud (of course he tried).
I know its the typical Hollywood ending for everything to work out (even with Agril's suicide - as awful as it sounds its what she wanted) - but the horrible death of a baby??? Or at least dying in an explosion is less suffering than drowning. I just feel that his death was just cruel. Cruel to him, his brother, Satelite (who was there) and to us.
Which now i have to ask - why WAS satelite there?? And how did he know he was in the water????
