Would you say the ending of this movie was a happy one?

And that Jeff ultimately deserved it and got what's coming to him? Or is it not as simple, well, apparently judging by the controversy this generates even here, to some folks at least? (Or is the latter totally wrong and we should just ignore them or forcefully disagree with them?)

No, not at all!
I think Jeff is innocent but got so manipulated by Hailie that he was afraid of being portraited as a pedophile.
So he chose suicide.

But he wasn't innocent himself, was he? And at least, he was criminally guilty of certain offenses of a sexual nature and even assisted a known maniac, right?
