During an interview panel for the film the director revealed that Jeff ( Patrick Wilson) was telling the truth he did not commit the crime Hayley accused him of.

He may be innocent of the crimes she accuses him of, but he is definitely guilty of speaking sexually to an underage girl, going to meet her, bringing her to his home, and then supplying her with alcohol. The audience doesn't know what would have happened had she not had plans for him...

Did you watch the movie?
It was a ruse. She numbed his testicles then showed him a medical procedure on video. This was clearly shown in the film.
Do you think he’d be able to run around on the roof at the end if he’d had a fresh wound on his crotch?

not possible. the film proves, without any reasonable doubt, that he was 1. present and 2. at least "wanted to make pictures". did he take part in the rape and murder? according to the film, there is a 50% chance.
