not political, just truthful
I'll admit that I'm on the left but another left-leaning documentary this isn't. Nor is it a rah-rah pro-war right wing tract either. Just the soldiers POV and what they go through. I think some in the audience were hoping for some serious combat footage but in Iraq, icidents happen & are over with in seconds. So no battles here, just tension & alot of searching for who knows what.
The soldiers themselves are not the mindless drones one might expect. Young guys who listen to/perform rock & hip-hop, play video games, goof around. Most were not talking about how they spread freedom, most were talking about getting through this all alive. Many seem to feel those at home have no clue what they go through in Iraq, that it's all been forgotten about. I didn't hear any "liberal media bias" diatrabes like I see on the boards here so often.
The guys and gals make the best of the palace to chill out. Not as chilled out as we picture the guys in Vietnam as being. No alcohol but plenty of fun & games. Lots of raids but not much to show for them here. They arrest many Iraqis but who knows if these guys are insurgents or not. Off to Abu Gharib to play naked Twister. Can't even trust the interpreters, one is arrested himself.
I wouldn't say this proves the war is wrong but don't watch this & tell me it's all going along perfectly under Dubya's divine guidance. No soldiers say anything about Bush, one complians about the lack of armor on the humvees. Armed Forces Radio pumps out Rumsfeld's PR constantly, no one seems to care over there. The emotions seem to be frustration or lightheartedness. Bush better do right by these guys when they come home.
