I didn't understand why they were in the movie, that scene didn't make any sense for me?

i literally have seen one minute of this movie and that scene makes perfect sense..they show that the year is 1969 and they are showing the woman right before sehe dissapeared.. its very very sad and odd that someone would be THAT confused by such an obvious simple plotline

Ah, no. You are wrong. If you look at the cast list, the girl and boy are not the couple (and not the girl who was murdered).

I am sure that they are the people who found the severed finger with the engagement ring on it

The severed finger itself is shown at the end of the opening scene, right after they are shown freaking out and fumbling away from it.

It's not very well done because clearly it isn't visible enough for all viewers, and also I think the entire overture is unnecessary and misleading. It is probably misleading on purpose, but it just doesn't work.
