'The other side of Darwin's nightmare' by Francois Garcon

I am writing a thesis on nile perch in Lake Victoria and was wondering if anyone could help:

Wikipedia refers to a book criticizing this movie, called "The other side of Darwin's nightmare" by Francois Garcon.

I have tried finding this book, but with no success. Is it available in English ? Is anything published by or about Garcon available online ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Just saw the Sauper film today for the first time (May 28, 2007) so have not studied this issue before but thanks for mentioning Francois Garcon, which led me to some of the objections to the film. Garcon's counter-argument first appeared as an article in "Les Temps Modernes." (Or maybe first "le Monde" and then the magazine "Liberation"; I can't find them online, but maybe you can). Heres's something about Garcon's book: http://www.afrik.com/article11427.html(Suggest you Google "le cauchemar de Darwin" + Francois Garcon for the more numerous links to the debate in French.) In English I found that Information from Answers has an outline of the film and debates here http://www.answers.com/topic/darwin-s-nightmare.

You will find many discussions of the Garcon critique online and yhou will find the book, whose titles is "L'Enquite sur le cauchemar de Darwin" for sale at Amazon Canada--but it's not available in English, only in French, I suspect. (http://www.amazon.ca/Enquete-cauchemar-darwin-Fran%C3%A7ois-Garcon/dp/2082105792.

ONe thing is clear: if you're writing about the Nile perch and Lake Victoria, you've chosen a topic that is very, very political, when seen through this film.

I am curious to learn more myself.

Note that to find the book under its original titles you must look up L'Enquete sur le cauchemar de Darwin.

François Garçon was convicted of defamation by a Parisian court in February 2008. In May 2009 he lost his appeal of this verdict. His accusations that Sauper perpetrated a fraud have about as much weight as those of Holocaust-deniers.

Sauper is vindicated, and Garcon shall not have the last word. Three was no fraud. Of course this doesn't mean the film is immune from all criticism. I would still argue, as a number of reviewers have, that the film contains elements of sensationalism, a haphazardness of structure that leads to ambiguity, and a failure to fully contextualize the horrors so accurately documented, to point to all their root causes. Therefore I hope you're not declaring all criticism of the film taboo. You would be doing Sauper little good by overstating the case, perhaps due to your elswwhere avowed friendship with the filmmaker and high opinion of his work. Good work is allowed to have flaws.

Please refer to my previous post on this topic:

He was convicted for defamation only regarding his assertion that Sauper forced children to act a scene several times. He was cleared for the rest and maybe you should consider reading his counter arguments before making ridiculous comparisons.
