Audience reaction?

So I kind of watched this thing while the TV was on in the background.
What struck me is the audience reaction.
With every 'joke', the audience roared with laughter, and clapped and stomped.
I really don't understand this.
Foxworthy made some comment about how anyone who cuts in front of you and doesn't wave should be "run into a wall" or some such. The audience thought this was the funniest thing ever.
First, there was no joke there. Just a comment.
Second, comedians have been making jokes about the thank-you wave for decades - the most recent that comes to mind is Seinfeld about 10 years ago.
Third, even if you find his observation humorous, there's no explanation for why the audience went completely nuts over it.
The entire show seemed to be like this.
Bill made a comment like, "the way to a man's heart isn't through his stomach, it's a little further South".
Again, the audience laughed and laughed at this... one woman was shown poking her husband as if to say, "that's you alright!"
Is this stuff really that funny? If so, I know several children of friends who have careers waiting for them as stand-up comedians.
If you find this funny, that's cool, but is it as funny as the audience seems to think??
Really I've seen funnier bits in Garfield comics.
