The symbolism in Mugen + Jin's clothing
Firstly, there is the obvious thing about colours; Mugen wears red, Jin wears blue: as if they're opposing boxers, and also emphasizing Mugen's dangerous spontaniety and Jin's inner tranquility.
But I also noticed on a recent re-watch that each of them has a simple symbol on the back of his robe, or tunic or whatever they wear.
On Mugen's back, is a triangle outline. I'd be happy to hear others' interpretations of it. I think it represents strength. Like how in engineering, the triangle is the most efficient basis of a structure: the triangular pattern within pylons, the frame of a bicycle, the three rotors of a helicopter, etc.
But it is strength without a greater awareness, strength without responsibility.
While Jin's symbol is a rhombus made of four smaller rhombuses. Which symbolizes that he has the fourth aspect, honour.
Just a random thought. I'd be happy to hear any reactions to this, even if you just want to say I'm a flaming moron.
I haven't noticed any insignia on Fuu's costume yet.
