I feel like the first 13 episodes are a lot better than the last 13. There are a few good episodes in ssn2, but I can't think of one in ssn1 I don't like. I guess I might be a little biased because of the zombie episode in ssn2...I really HATE that episode.
I definitely preferred the second season. After the first season aired on adult swim I was actually a little let down. I thought the second one made up for it.
---- I'd love to see you in the moonlight with your head thrown back and your body on fire.
I liked both seasons, I now the 2nd season was more comical, had more slapstick and chibi gags but it also had some really good episodes like the blind female samurai(I think she was a samurai) episode, the Christian episode and the one where you see Mugen's past, however I was not a fan of the zombie episode, that was more like an episode of Naruto than samurai Champloo and I taught it was like a bad Simpson's Helloween episode.
Have to agree with the TC. I thought season 1 was a lot better. Season 2 did have some great episodes, but some were just completely stupid and kinda put me off the series.
I just finished watching the series on Netflix. I actually came to the forum just to see if there was anybody else talking about what the hell was up with the zombie episode. The baseball one felt a bit out of place, too, but nothing like the zombie one. It was almost like it flipped into a completely different series. I think it was just to give us a bit of light heartedness before the series had to get more dramatic and end.
They were just filler but usually I like filler. Filler is where you get the good character development. I thought episode twelve was pointless too, but there was some good bonding between Jin and Mugen, since Mugen can't read and Jin was willing to read Fuu's diary to him. And they were both annoyed at what Fuu said and mad at her trick at the end. Character development, even with Fuu, and a little foreshadowing of the end since it shows she can pull the wool over the boy's eyes. But the zombie and baseball episodes-they do feel out of place, they don't fit in with the rest of the show, and they just seem so stupid to me that not only do I not watch them, I tell people I introduce to the show not to bother with them.
Tough, I rarely see them as two "seasons" because I've always watched it in a 26 episode block, that being said even though the first "season" is more consistent and the 2nd one has those filleresque baseball and zombie episodes. I prefer the second season, purely on the strength of the finale, bogus booty and war of the words (the funniest episodes in my opinion) and the excellent elegy of entrapment which is think is the finest point of the show, for anyone that doesn't know which one that is. It's the one with the blind assassin who befriends the group. It's the first moment in the show that sets up the finale, and the range of emotions in that two parter really takes you places.
1st season if the whole thing really wasn't really just one season was better. The Indian episode, the blind girl and the finale episodes were some of the better episodes in the 2nd season.
