How long do you think their journey took?

From when they initially met in the first episode until the last episode when they finally went their separate ways, does anyone want to venture a guess as to just how long the trio was together? They never really say it on the show.

Obviously this journey didn't just span over the course of a few days. . .maybe two or three months?

Perhaps more?

Interesting question, Rogue. It's a long way, on foot, and of course they keep getting delayed by the necessity to earn some money, and by Fuu getting kidnapped... And until they meet the charming Dutchman they don't have any idea where they're going. Several months, I should think.

In Episode 10, when Mugen is training to fight that weird Shaolin swordsman and Jin is doing the housework, they stay in the same place for a whole month. We watch the changes of the moon.

You must be incredibly intelligent or observant because I have watched this entire series 4 or 5 times over and I never thought about that!

After sleeping on it, my personal bid is that the trio was together for no less than 5 months but definitely not an entire year. I remember in episode 13(?) (the one when Jin and Mugen were reading Fuu's diary) that when Fuu started her diary, she says it's the month of July.

They really did a good job in leaving this tidbit up to our imagination.

It seems to be summer the whole time, doesn't it? Though as they go further and further south the weather would stay quite mild anyway.
Maybe I'll watch again, looking out for more clues.

Yes, I took that into account as well!

This is probably me looking too much into it, but from what I understand the trio spent a chunk of their time in/around Edo (which is modern day Tokyo) and that area of Japan is on the same line of latitude as where I live, which means that we have the same seasonal changes throughout the year (rainy in the spring, hot in the summer, cold/snowy winters, etc).

But in SC the weather generally stays the same throughout the series with little change. Like while they spend a lot of their time sleeping outdoors, we never hear any of the characters concerned about finishing their journey in anticipation of the weather drastically changing. That's what originally made me think that their journey didn't take longer than 6 months. But like you pointed out, if they were constantly headed south, the weather would've stayed pretty warm/mild anyway, even if the seasons were changing.

Yeah, I'm probably thinking too hard about this. . .

For the most part they simply went straight to the next port of call, so it really cruised by if it weren't for those big delays they went through. Given that they were holed up in some places ranging from several days to a month maximum. They started somewhere in spring and entered summer, if that helps. I haven't rewatched the last six episodes yet, but I don't remember them getting to fall.
Three months minimum for the whole journey, six months tops.
