Why...Why was this brilliant show cancelled?

I bought both seasons on dvd a few days ago, and finished watching season 2 yesterday. To me, it had everything. Brilliant actors, believable plotlines and a lovely gothic theme. So please tell me why the hell it was cancelled after only 2 seasons?!

I'm afraid it was cancelled for the same reason that the vast majority of TV shows get cancelled: low audience figures. The number of viewers declined throughout the second season, and the last few episodes only achieved audience figures of 50,000.

It should get a reboot by BBC America or remake by HBO/Showtime TV. sigh
(I recommend bombarding TV execs with a request, or getting fans to create a message board wherein they all send their ideas for a show remake, and the best of the lot get chosen to herald a new season which will be pitched to the networks. Although I suppose having the writing/show-runners have strange IM names show up on the credits might be confusing)
