Am I the only one who thought Series 2 was terrible?

After the brilliant first series I was so eagerly anticipating the follow up. I wish I hadn't bothered! It just felt too over the top, that was the charm of series one to me, the randomness, but I think they just went too far and it soon became one of my least favourite shows on tv. I quickly became bored of everything about it, it is no where near the quality of the genius that is series one. I still watch and enjoy series one though :)

I agree with you in that it was OTT but actually I enjoyed it just as much. I got into it really late and so had all episodes and series in big sittings...so for me the transition seemed quite smooth. I loved it, the fact that it was even kookier suited me down to the ground.

I love it lots....but from hearing other people talk about it a lot of people arent that keen on the second series :S

Yeah, I agree with the poster above me.
It definitely was a little ridiculous at points, but I still found it equally as side-splittingly hilarious as the first series.

i thought it was about as good. series one was a definate 10/10. series 2 may be a 9.5/10

the specials were the weak link

I loved it just as much as the first series. I remeber thinking that the first ep of season wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, but I loved the rest of the series. I agree with halfmanhalfelephant that the specials were the weakest episodes. I still love them, but they could have been better I thought.

I have always been disappointed with series 2, especially when it was aired and each week I was left feeling a little empty from it.

They ran out of ideas at times, stretched things out too but the worst part is the continuous will they/wont they thing between Mac & Caroline.
At times this aspect was so tedious and made series 1 look so much better.

I recently watched the entire show though in just over a week (After introducing it to someone new) and I enjoyed series 2 alot more than I ever have before.
But still whilst I dont think it's that close to S1 overall it isn't "terrible".

First off - must say it's a nice change to be given actual replies rather than abuse when posting something I know people will disagree with.

I may have to take "benmc's" advice and have another go at it now I have lowered my expectations.

i agree with you that they sometimes took things too far, like the whole lion cub thing?

but i still found it equally hilarious as the first season :)

I felt the same. Watched them when they originally aired. Obviously some time had elapsed between the broadcast of the first and second series, but I remember feeling much less enthusiastic about the second series, it felt like it fell short of my expectations and just wasn't as funny.

However, having just revisited the entire run for the first time on DVD, I enjoyed it all to pretty much the same degree.
I definitely didn't feel the dip in quality and entertainment when we started Series 2 as I assumed I would.

I think it was always going to be difficult for the show's writers to top Season 1. Season 2 was funny but not as hilarious as the first, perhaps because we'd gotten used to the manic humour from S1.

And yes, I would agree they were padding the storylines a little far; and some of the looniness became a bit boring - especially from Sue White - who was abasolutely brilliant in S1 but just became a characture in two.

As for the Specials - oh dear!

I agree that Series 2 wasn't as good as the first, and some characters, particularly Alan Statham and Sue White, were made too over the top. The genius of Series 1 was that the characters were parodies, but you could still identify with them as real people. In regards to Statham and Sue White, I feel that something was lost in that respect. However, I did still enjoy series 2, even if the Special was something of a let-down.

Urgh. Okay, I just watched all of Season 2 and yes, I admit, it's way, way too OTT. But,...having said that, I think of it this way: They must've known there wasn't going to be a Season 3 and decided, what the heck, just go for it, and blow the wad. Nothing to lose, right?

And, having said even that,...I still enjoyed it. I could almost pretty much forgive the OTT-ness of the whole ordeal because the cast is brilliant and I fell in love with the characters. A few of them morphed beyond understanding, but pretty much, I still hung on.

Season 2 was amazing....Guy trying to get to work, he's banned, the swan.....I love how he kinda loses it because of what happens at the end of season one....and then later...lets not forget The Holly Trap, and then the Heron! THE HERON!!!

I know you can battle the nasties, dear.

I disliked that whole "Holly trap" issue. I found Sarah Alexander's character of Angela to be irritating,---just as much as I dislike her character of "Susan" in "Coupling," ----and I am a huge fan of Coupling...but she can only act "one way" and that way is always the same,...irritating and snobby and judgmental. Here in Green Wing, she was especially unlikable with all the back stabbing she does, the colluding, her being very two-faced. So I guess she's good at acting "that way" but launching Holly's entrance off Angela's coniving behind the scenes gave a bitter pill to the otherwise enjoyable show.

I don't know I'm watching Series 1 and 2 straight away so I didn't have any high anticipation for it. I think The first episode of season 2 was very disappointing, I didn't know if it was the pre-conceived notions from reading the reception of the first episode or what. but other than the table tennis I didn't really laugh and it did get abit too sureal. However after episode 1 It picked up again, same with the first episode of Season 1 which I also didn't care for. I say Season 2 had more bigger laughs but series 1 was more consistent. The series 1 finale though was pretty up there though.
