The end. WTF? (spoilers)

So she floated away on a balloon? Am I alone in thinking this was a bit of a terrible and unsatisfactory ending to an otherwise great series?

Not terrible, I didn't think. My feeling was that they had two ways to tackle the ending: either dealing with Mac's inevitable death head-on, or having a miraculous recovery/reveal a misdiagnosis.

The second option would have been a cheat, so they went with the first. Now obviously, in such an hilarious show, you could easily wind up with a terrible downer with the doomed love between Mac and Caroline.

Instead, they ended on the "uplifting moment". Yes, there will be a sad ending coming soon, we all know that, but by focusing on the happy magic of the wedding day, the end the series on a high note.
Caroline didn't actually "float away"... she just floated. Kind of moving back and forth. She'll be coming down, and when she's down, Guy will still be there for her, for what it's worth. But for the moment, she is UP, and she has Mac, and today everything is perfect.

The end for Joanna and Alan was amazing, I thought. Very poignant.

I like the alternate/extended ending. It frustrates the hell out of me, but it has the GW humour that we know and love.

What ending are you talking about? I just got the DVD set for my birthday, and my ending is totally different!

I see Guy proposing again to Caroline on the trainstation, she accepts and they take the train.

Martin, Joanna and Alan are stuck on the cliff, just like the way series one ended.

And Mac just rides away on his bike and he disseaperes while driving. He just fades out.

That's the moment the credits roll.

Have I just missed something here completely, or do I just have a weird DVD :p

No, there was a two part Christmas special with a proper ending that continues on from that and wraps up everyone's stories.

I know you can battle the nasties, dear.

I don't know I just watched all of it. I'm just sad at the official ending that Alan and Joanna are going to die, The extended alternative version shows them clinging to a bouy, it's less symbolic I guess and considering that's the ending they would of used for series 3 (so they'll still survive) it still makes me sad that it's all ended. I must admit if I were to rewatch Green Wing in the future I'll skip the christmas special because while it's funny it's also just quite depressing but that's because I like the characters so much.
