Hope for the best and expect the worst.

What about the English Pronunciation?

I’ve had to spend the last week teaching my young daughter to pronounce
Puma and Jaguar properly.

Poomarh ?
Jagwar ?

Giving small British children speech impediments is just not cricket!!!!

Indeed

How is it racist?

WE have to learn chinese if we go to china, spanish if we go to spain, but they can't bother learning english when they come to america?....In america!

If they live in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, or California then it doesn't matter. Those were meant to be Mexican states but the U.S. stole them. The U.S. should learn to deal with Spanish speakers in those states.

But that's not the point though. "Go Diego Go" is a show that teaches basic spanish words. No need to make remarks like "this is America, we speak english here". Whats wrong with learning another language?

reply

Because they don't teach any good ones in school.Mainly Japanese.

The real problem with this show is that they teach a few Spanish words... badly. I mean, if they want to teach 'em Spanish, go for it, just quit being wishy-washy and teach it right, not badly pronounced by some shrill kid. And I like in California, so yeah, I would like my kids to learn it.

I know I'm late in the game on this one, but to be fair, the US didn't "steal" those states. We bought them for $15 million as part of the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Of course, that opened up its own can of worms (property rights of Mexicans already living there) so if you want to use the word "steal" as a metaphor, then that's fine.

But its not as if the US just waltzed down there, shoved a US flag in the ground, and said, "MINE!" Mexico exited the deal with what would be over $300 million today. If the US had stolen them, they would have come out with nothing.

But I don't blame anyone for using the term, really. I learned about the GH treaty during a Latin American history class in college, then the next semester I was being taught that the states were "stolen" in an ethnic literature class. If I hadn't taken the history class first, I would have believed it.

Ahh what do ya expect from a bunch of liberals? Everything you say and do these days is considered racist. I am NOT a racist for wanting my kid to speak English in an English speaking nation, which this had been since the nation was first established.

Hope for the best and expect the worst.

I don't know what your problem is.
Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world, behind Chinese Mandarin and Hindi, and the reason why those languages are ahead of Spanish is because China and India have populations of over 1 Billion each.

There are more countries that have native Spanish speakers in the world than any other language.

Besides, the majority of people in other countries speak more than one language, unlike the U.S. Do you hear any other country complain about some Children's T.V show that is meant to TEACH the kids just because part of it is in another language?

GET OVER IT!
You can stay ignorant your whole life, but don't ruin it for your children.

FYI...Bilingual people are more successful in every Country.

As for myself, I speak English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and just started Hebrew; and I'm only 18 years old!

I don't hate the language, just the characters. Diego and Dora are so annoying! When I hear Diego say, "We have to tell this animal something in Spanish. He doesn't speak English" I wanna yell at the TV, "Well then tell the animal to find someone else to help it!" Couldn't they have made more likeable characters so learning Spanish was fun?

Ni Hao, Kai-lan teaches Mandarin Chinese and it's such a cute show. I don't know why exactly it has success whereas Dora and Diego come across as annoying to so many people. Kai-lan makes learning new words interesting and fun for tots.

To the poster above me- You'll be very valuable in the job market with your language skills.
