Someone knew about them ?

So I was wondering if someone besides Gentleman knew about them being in love, english is not my first language and maybe I misunderstood something but it seems that they had no problem being together. Well I know they were not really a couple with what they have been through but Gentleman knew right ? He didn't tell anybody ? At that time I guess they would have been in trouble if they were denounced. Sorry if this is a dumb question
