Which is better?

Fingersmith or Tipping the Velvet? I personally liked Fingersmith better.

Loved them both but I gotta go with Fingersmith.

reply

I saw both of them and I would have to go with Fingermsith.

reply

I actually preferred Tipping the Velvet. Maybe because my expectations were so high with Fingersmith, so I wasn't as floored when I had finally seen it.

reply

Fingersmith for me.

reply

Fingersmith, most definatly!
I just didn't like the narration on Velvet, and there were no shocking twists. Or anything that kept me interested...

Fingersmith left me in a shock, especially with Sue going to the asylum.

I loved both but Fingersmith is the one I will probably watch every so often. Tipping the Velvet was great but I think it was a mistake seeing the French & Saunders' spoof of it first! Quite a few scenes gave me the giggles which I don't know if it was from the campiness in some scenes of TTV or if it was from memories of F&S.

I read Tipping the Velvet first. I fell in love with it. I bought the DVD and watched it over and over.
I had read where people thought FS was better than TTV. I couldn't possibly believe anything could be better TTV and with great trebidation started the book. The first night I stayed up till 2:00am reading. What everyone said was true! FS is better than TTV!
The film adaptation is better than TTV too! It is very faithful to the book, whereas TTV changed the ending and ruined Flo's character.

reply

Tipping the Velvet for sure. I watched a million times on DVD - love it. I don't feel like I need to own Fingersmith. For me, it doesn't even compare.

reply

I guess we really do all have different tastes because I never understand how TTV could be better than FS,yes TTV may be lighter in parts but it's mostly just sex and singing.I love Nan and Flo together but they don't compare to the passion and the emotional journey that Sue and Maud had.I actually got a little bored with all the sex in both the TTV book and series whereas Fingersmith didn't need sex scenes to fill up time it had an amazing plot and sub-characters to fill it.I think people who prefer TTV like a more sexy camp type movie where people who like Fingersmith like a more emotional one.Though I have both in my collection but it's Fingersmith every time for me.

The full of words say,how I want you...How I love you.

OF COURSE FINGERSMITH IS BETTER ....TTV IS REALLY GOOD TOO AS EVERYTHING SARAH WATERS DOES, BUT I FELL IN LOVE WITH FINGERSMITH AND ALL THE CHARACTERS AND I LOVED FINGERSMITH ADAPTATION TOO IT WAS SO ROMANTIC ,CUTE AND DARK SIDED AT THE SAME TIME......BRILLIANT

I prefer the book Fingersmith to Tipping the Velvet, but I did prefer the adaption of Tipping the Velvet. It might just be my love of the theatricals and Fingersmith did have a very different feel. I enjoyed both immensely.

reply

I absolutly love both books...but if i have to choose one, which is asked obviously on here..i would defiantly go with Tipping the Velvet, 50% of the reason is because Rachael Stirling stars in it!

reply

I love both, but I say TTV is better.

I like TTV better, it might be because I watched TTV before and I had too high expectation for Fingersmith or it might largely due to Rachael Stirling, she's awesome.

here here..

Same goes for me as well, not only the movie but the book as well. Yet i read The Night Watch and was majorly impressed.

Now its a toss between the two.. book wise
