Plot Question

Hey,
I'm from New Zealand and the only way I'm going to be able to see this film is if I buy it on DVD online. Anyway, like many others, I have been drawn to it by the soundtrack which has been done by dredg, but I do not want to spend the money plus shipping for a film which is not worth it.

What I really want to know is; is this film a pro-america 'we can beat the terrorists' film, or does it look at the catostophe from multiple angles?

Cheers guys,

Leon

reply

its definitely not blindly pro-America. i think its more pro-humanity and pro-tolerance. the ending breaks a lot of the ethnic stereotypes that occur in typical hollywood films. plus, if you buy it on google video you don't have to pay for shipping and its only four dollars.

It sorta suck, but was entertaining enough to keep getting bored with, nothing I would look foward to buying.

Americans are all portrayed as bigoted, dope smoking, foolish idiots unless they are Indians in love with women who don't wear bras.

In other words you'll probably love it.

But to answer your question, no it does not look at the catastrophe from multiple angles. It only looks at the catastrophe from the standpoint that Americans are bigoted, dope smoking, foolish idiots unless they are Indians in love with women who don't wear bras.

I believe that the main character was American, and he was not portrayed as any of those things. 'In other words you'll probably love it.' You assume the person that asked this question is Anti-American, why? Because he is from another country?

You people have to realise that a low budget, independent film does not have the resources to pull together a massive amount of actors and settings to get its point across. This movie portrayed the 'average' American in the main character, the apathetic, pot-smoking American in the main character's friend, the bigot who beat the Indian store-owner, the forgotten veteran desperate for water, the military American and his brash, young counterpart... You obviously didn't pay attention if all you saw were 'bigoted, dope smoking, foolish idiots'.

Why is it that whenever an indie film is criticised for being poorly written/acted, a bunch of jerks come out of the woodwork to say "give the little guy a chance, they don't have big budgets or special effects".

To all those morons, I say once again. Special effects or fancy locations are NOT required in order to get good acting and plot.

If an indie film is crap, I will say so. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that the film was good just because it was an indie film to 'give it a chance'. In fact, those who do do that are actually doing the whole indie film fraternity a major disservice, because after they see a couple indie films on your recommendation and they turn out to be crap, they are likely to just wholesale avoid indie films regardless of what you say, even if they are good. Heard of the little boy who cried wolf?
