What was the deal with Jack and the map?

If Theda and Popcorn were in cahoots from the start:

1. Was Jack just a cover? He didn't know anything about the scam, he just did/sold drugs...so did Theda just hook up with him to throw people off? Seemed like she really liked him.

2. Since he didn't know, he didn't steal the map, Theda did... what was this all about, since she was in on it. They seemed to plan to kill Manny in the mine anyway, so why "test" his loyalty? Seemed like they were just unecessarily complicating the scam with Thedal "so-called" stealing the map from Popcorn, unless they did it to make Manny kill Jack, as he was no longer needed.

Anybody?

Yes Jack was just a cover. And yes again; Not specifically to kill Jack but so that Manny felt in control and "part of the team". Jack just ended up being in the way because he was too attached to Theda and because they didn't plan on Manny being so on top of things.

I was so captured by the twists and turns of this movie I had to investigate its plot further.

There are so many possibilities. It is clear everyone had a "con" going. And for sure the Drug dealer and the Casino owner's son knew Theda.

I thought Popcorn tried to get Manny to leave the mine, but Manny decided to stay behind and search. Popcorn asked him to help him out when he did not volunteer, but he stayed.

The map had to be planted by Theda maybe they were through with Jack and wanted him out.

But Popcorn seemed truly reluntant to go to Jack's room especially with the gun. But he was resolved when he finally pulled it.
