The Groom/questions?

I know that pre-arranged marriages are still popular in several parts of the world, but why would a supposed TV star in Syria, adored by perhaps millions, would want to marry someone he hever saw, especially since it's her 2nd marriage???
and Damascus seemed like a modern city, so why would the groom show up in a broken down bus with few friends, no best man, and no press coverage?(he's TV star, remember)
Also, I know the perception is that the French are rude, but why would that UN worker just walk away like that, without giving a proper explaination or without staying around until it's resolved or giving the bride some moral support???
