Umm, no where is it even implied that she is Hawaiian. Maybe her father just liked the sound of the name and named her that. My daughter has a Celtic name, but she is not Celtic. Think dude before you get all offended.

"Think dude before you get all offended."

well if you knew anything about hawaiian culture you would understand what that means. or any other culture for that matter. a white person playing a black one as in soul man. asians playing an asian race that is not theirs, because hollywood thinks that it doesnt matter what asian you are, apparently we all look alike huh?
"Umm, no where is it even implied that she is Hawaiian"

hello, lani alii???? that is a hawaiian name. so think "dude" before you go telling other people to think.

and for the one who called me idiot, i didnt come here calling you names, so dont call me any. almost anyone who isnt born and raised in hawaii who is named lani, isnt really named that and they took it as their own. hawaiian names are given, by someone hawaiian. and just taking one because you like it is offensive. anyway youre ignored. like i said i didnt call you any names. dont come here calling me any.

As a Penguin American, I am deeply offended that not one of these characters was played by an actual penguin.

There isn't penguins in the north hemisphere. But..... there's a greek musician called Iani. His music is sooooooo boring....

It is called acting. Anyone can become another character, which is specifically what you do in a film. To find insult in everything an actor does, when they are just trying to get a job is ridiculous.

'Culture' has a place in history and can be carried on by those who desire it. Individuals have a right to live their own lives though. Picking a name is completely up to the parents in 'American culture'. You can choose literally any name that has ever been used or make up a new one. A name can not be copyrighted by a culture, who then would bar it from society at large indefinitely. That sounds a bit racist to me.

I know that this post is old, but I just saw this reply.

The whole POINT of my post what that her name does not require that she is Hawaiian. People use names from other cultures all the time. Her father could have been from Italy for all we know and thought the name sounded pretty the last time he visited Hawaii. So my point was you are jumping up to get all offended over an assumed offense. I was not telling you what to think. I was telling you that you sound silly. Dude.
