The Language

Did anyone beside me notice the language? I figured the movie was gonna get in tagalog or filipino (idk if they're the same) but when i listen, i can hear random spanish and english words. is that how people of the Philippines normally speak?

reply

yes. English words thrown in is not rare. The Spanish words could be tagalog or another Filipino dialect as **the language was derived from Spanish**.

Where did you watch this movie? I'm looking for it on DVD (not a fan of watching movies online).

Don't touch me.

You are right about the English words commonly thrown in but....... Spanish words are not Tagalog. There are many languages in the Philippines, they are not thought of as 'dialects', as a 'dialect' refer to how, ie. an American from Boston speaks as opposed to a Texan, it is called a dialect because of the differences found w/in 1 Langauge. Tagalog is just one of the languages in the Philippines *but* it has become the primary language used as a source for the national Filipino language w/c is Filipino. Other languages in the Philippines have contributed to the primary Filipino language but they are not the basic template of the *national* language, w/c is Tagalog. Spanish words have since been included or added, as well as the other known languages in the Philippines, so all in all ---- Tagalog+various Filipino native languages+Spanish= Pilipino language. Pilipino+English= current national or accepted Filipino language.

The Spanish words are or were never part of the original Tagalog or native languages in the Philippines, but they have now been accepted or included in the Filipino vocabulary, similar to how many French, Spanish, Latin, etc etc words have been incorporated into the current English language.

Simply explained, Filipinos were colonized by the Spaniards for 300 years, and by the Americans for 40 years. Ergo, a lot of Spanish words were incorporated into most of our languages, also Tagalog, and English is also our second language.
