WHIch IS The BEST PINOY HORROR???

NOw that the Philippine Movie industry is thriving with what I would like to call modernized horror which of these whould you like to recommend and why? (You may add others movies that I might have forgot if you like)

Malikmata
Spirit of the Glass
Sukob
Feng Shui
Sigaw (The Echo)
Pamahiin
White Lady
Huwag Kang Lilingon

I would like to add other horror movies that have made the history of Philippine Horror and should be recognized;

Itim (The Rites of May)
Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara (Original)

Classics from the 80's and earlier:

Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (original)
- "Kill Barbara with Terror"

Haunted House
- the "Bagets" cast notwithstanding, this was a classic

Lovingly Yours, Helen (the horror segment, of course! with Julie Vega)
- based on a TV drama anthology, but the movie had a horror segment

Gabi ng Lagim
- "Night of Doom" (or Terror)

Traje De Boda ("Wedding Gown")
- technically not a movie, but a classic episode from the "Connie Reyes on Camera" TV anthology / series (which was the rival of "Lovingly Yours, Helen")

Shake Rattle and Roll 1 (3-in-1 movie)
- Baso ("Glass"): about spirit of the glass gone wrong
- Pridyider ("Refrigerator"): a TRUE classic
- Manananggal ("Half-bodied Monster"*): another classic

* no direct translation for this creature

Shake Rattle and Roll 2 (3-in-1 movie)
- Multo ("Ghost"): set in Baguio City
- Kulam ("Witchcraft"): though this was mostly comic relief
- Aswang ("Monster/Were-creature"**): another classic

** no direct translation for this creature

Huwag Kang Hahalik sa Dyablo
- "Do Not Kiss the Devil"

Huwag Mong Buhayin Ang Bangkay
- "Do Not Resurrect the Corpse"

Aswang
- not to be confused with the "Aswang" segment of SRR 2 (above); this was a full-length film with a totally different story
- technically 1992, but it was probably the last of the great Filipino horror flicks before everything just went downhill in the 90's)

---

Then comes the resurgence of great Filipino horror again in recent years:

Sigaw ("The Scream" / "The Echo")

Pamahiin ("Superstition")

Huwag Lang Lilingon ("Don't Look Back")
- 2-in-1 movie with a twist

Ang Pamana: The Inheritance
- technically a Fil-Canadian film, but its subject matter and setting are distinctly Filipino

Siquijor
- almost b-movie in quality, but it has an atmosphere that is frightening, and it did not get the attention it deserved

---

The following are passable, if improved a bit more:

Sukob (no direct translation; it's a type of curse/jinx)
- was fairly, but Kris Aquino remains to be a horrible actress and distracts from the movie; perhaps if they had cast someone else

TXT
- some would say a rip-off of "One Missed Call," but it had its own original ideas, except the ending was a dud

Ouija
- praising this is high enough for me, as I detest the 2 leads (Judy Ann Santos and Jolina Magdangal), but Iza Calzado saved it, and the story in itself was good except for some minor plot holes

Malikmata ("Trick of the Eye")
- Rica Peralejo is just silly, but the premise was fairly good

---

The following are just idiotic for recent movies:

All the succeeding "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" movies, with the exception of the "Ang Lihim ng San Roque" ("The Secret of [The Town of] St. Roch") segment of SRR 2K5, which was essentially a stylized sem0-remake of the "Aswang" segment of SRR2

Feng Shui
- aside from Kris Aquino's stupid acting, the premise is almost laughable, which is too bad because the idea had excellent potential; the "thematic deaths" were downright hilarious is many parts, esp. the Year of the Rabbit as well as the Year of the Horse deaths

Spirit of the Glass
- Ouija was a better interpretation of this type of story

Sanib ("Possession")
- Exorcist much? Talk about rip-off!

Tiyanaks (no direct translation for this creature; child monsters)
- simply: stupid (the 80's movie of similar title, "Tiyanak" [singular], is by far better, and that's saying a lot)
