is this scarier than feng shui?

As said by many, feng shui is funny while this one is creepy and much psycologically scary. It was said that it is much better in a sense that this movie express such athmosphere that feng shui doesn't have. What makes feng shui scary is the faces of the ghouls. Please tell me which one is better!

Feng Shui is a walk in the park. Sigaw is a HORROR movie. Which means, it is 100x better than Feng Shui. Even The Echo (Sigaw) website is creepy. I was amazed by the reviews it received. Check it out!

reply

yeah they're both good movies. but "sigaw" in a way was scarier. I felt like the beginning was slow, but it does twist your mind.

sigaw is the best...feng shui just dragged on too long, not many scary bits. sigaw just plays with your mind..

What is the address of Sigaw's official site?

I agree. I was LAUGHING while watching Feng Shui, which is not a very good thing given that it was supposed to be a horror movie. Sigaw, on the other hand, totally creeped me out. Feng Shui is a poser; Sigaw is pure horror.

Feng Shui is pretty good, but "Sanib" is better, and this seems to be pretty good. Should I check it out? (I'm Filipino).

God NO! Saw this one a few years back and boy was I disappointed. I wanted a *beep* refund the moment I got out of the movie theater. The acting is horrible! The SFX made me laugh (which is not a good sign since this is supposed to be a HORROR movie). This is a horrible remake of the Exorcist. Do not waste your money on a film like this. Take it from a Filipino, like yourself.

"Sigaw" or "Sanib"? LOL.

I can't say...I haven't seen Sigaw yet but I've read many reviews on the internet, saying that it's good. Critics praised Yam Laranas's direction. They say the film's really scary (you should check out www.echothemovie.com). As for Sanib...sure, watch it...but be prepared...to LAUGH.

It's a little late for replies, but here goes.

Feng Shui is scary, but totally unbelievable. It's a film more for Asians, who can relate to Filipino and CHinese traditions and such.

Now Sigaw, it transcends any cultural boundaries. It has an Asian flavor, but the story has a common element with other ghost stories all over the world and it's right out creepy. And the best thing about it is, it's so believable, so plausible, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!

reply

I think the poster was referring to Sanib (check reference to The Exorcist). For pure thrills, Sigaw I think is best for me.

reply

Haha. Yeah I think Feng Shui is laughable. Especially Lotlot's acting. Man, I don't think anyone talks that way. She sounds so scripted.I'm excited about Sigaw being redone by Hollywood people. Though I haven't watched "Sigaw" (I hate anything with Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin), I'm glad that foreigners are taking interest. Maybe this may urge us to believe in our own (pinoy sa Pinoy).

Yam is filipino, but he thinks outside of the filipino box - that's why he's breaking into the international scene.

it sucked sour frog ass let me tell ya.

reply

waz up? sigaw is the movie to watch, even it belgium it won praises and awards and i don't like filipino movies but this one is one of the exceptions

reply

Feng Shui was a comedy. LOL.

As for Sigaw, it was scary! Admittedly, not even halfway through the film, I already guessed the twist of the movie - it was rather predictable (yes, including the whole twist on the apartment #) - and it did liberally borrow images and themes from Ju-On...

... BUT I must say despite that, it was a well-crafted and creepy film nonetheless. Very few Filipino Horror films in the past 10 years can claim that. Feng Shui, Shake Rattle Roll 2K5 (with the exception of the segment "Lihim"), Sanib, Malikmata, Spirit of the Glass, the Bahay ni Lola series, and many other Horror movies in the Philippines have become nothing but jokes.

Thankfully, Sigaw wasn't the same. It harkens back to the old Filipino Horror films from decades ago - Gabi ng Lagim, the original Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara, the first 2 Shake Rattle and Roll movies (the later ones were just stupid), and many others - that relied on mood and story rather than artificial jolts and scares. I dare say that before Ringu and Ju-On, Filipino horror from the 60's, 70's, and early 80's were already THERE in the Asian horror film market. Unfortunately, the 90's and the 2000's found the genre deteriorating in the Philippines when our neighbors found a wonderful surge in cult classics for the same.

Let's hope Sigaw sets an example and we get more quality Filipino horror again. I've read a nice review of Pamahiin, but haven't watched it, but here's hoping it's a good one too.

As for Sigaw, if they remake it in Hollywood... it better be good. The Ring remake was just not up to par, though The Grudge was a fairly good remake (then again, the director of the Hollywood version is the director of the origina). Here's hoping to putting us on the global map.

(Note: for those not in the know, "The Echo" isn't a direct translation of the word "Sigaw." The actual translation is actually "Scream." Of course, they can hardly name the American movie THAT. :) "Echo" though probably captures the mood of the movie more than "Scream" or "Sigaw" actually do... so kudos!)

reply

hey, i'm almost fluent in tagalog but the world "pamahiin" doesn't ring a bell to me. what does that mean?

reply

Pamahiin - superstition

reply

"Pamahiin" means superstition. :)

Feng Shui is a fantasy/adventure movie XD

I beg to disagree. Feng Shui (though it has some flicks of comedy) is scarier that Sigaw. If you will watch sigaw, it's like you're watching the Filipino version of exorcist (though Billy Crawford, who has a Filipino blood was in the dominion). There is nothing much to scream for in this movie. Unlike i feng shui, it has the originality of the story. The only thing that made Sigaw scary is the make up of Iza Calzado as a corpse/ghost, and I think that's the reason why she was chosen to play the same character in Hollywood version. Storywise, Feng Shui is scarier than Sigaw.

reply

I guess it's a matter of taste. The one thing that scared me when I watched Sigaw was the creepiness of the atmosphere... it was almost claustrophobic. Rare good acting from Joemarie Yllana; Iza Calsado was effective (don't know much about her as an actress... haven't seen her other works, but I like her in Sigaw.) Feng Sui borrows a lot from Asian horror cliches; borrows much more in fact than Sigaw. But that's just me... (maybe)...

"The problem with political jokes is that they get elected."

reply

Feng Shui had a GOOD concept. Unfortunately, the script and the choice of actors (especially Kris Aqunio), as well as the over-all direction, turned it into an unintended comedy. Basically, it was a waste of what could have been an excellent story idea.

reply

Sigaw is way much better than Feng Shui.. no contest
