Modern Day Christopher Columbus

The scene in which the guy takes the binoculars to the roof of the building and looks out on the urban jungle, the concrete maze--the suburbs of Beijing (or was it Ulan Bator?)--is so powerful. It seems to summarize in a poetic way all of the things emo music tries (try being the key word) to convey. Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the film, I felt this scene was worth the two hours.

Another notable scene, I felt, was when the two girls are riding that horse drawn carriage and Ulan Bator Night plays. I tried to find Ulan Bator Night online, but to no avail. Any help? I'm guessing it's film-exclusive.

I don't understand how something as seemingly ugly as tower blocks of the suburbs in cities like Beijing, Tokyo, and Hong Kong can evoke such nostalgia and tingles from viewers, or at least myself. It's definitely strange.
