And they could give her superpowers, change the daughter to twins and have them all live on a military base. Maybe it'd be somewhat interesting...

Okay, ShaBing!

I dont know...while I dont think a sequel is in order, Im getting fairly sick of movies like this ending without any closure. While one can assume an outcome about a variety of things by this films ending, it leaves too much open for interpretation...it completely ruined the whole film for me.

I sorta thought the same thing. Except give it about ten years or so, so we can see how she out as a young adult.

From now on, all fingerpainting will be done in red.

I liked that they didn't wrap it all up with a big red bow and tell me exactly how to interpret the ending. I like that interpretation was still allowed to spark my imagination on how Sherrybaby might have turned out.

Just because you aren't spoon fed all the answers doesn't mean the story is incomplete, step away from hollywould drivel for a while and you'll be amazed at the great movies out there.

I agree. The story ended at a logical place. All through the movie Sherry is showing us that she does not have the skills to live in a healthy way out in the real world. By the end of the movie she has finally accepted this and has stopped fighting it. It's the first time in the movie that I had hope for her.

Absolutely right. Anyone who was expecting any more closure than what we see at the end of this movie just doesn't have his/her head screwed on straight. There is nothing the writers could have done to "complete" the story any further, other than for it to have ended in total disaster (Sherry breaking parole & running off with her daughter, out of her very unrealistic belief in her ability to create a dream ending for herself). Or, they could have actually created a nice, rosy, fairy tale ending, except that it would have destroyed the story's credibility, let alone defeated the whole message of the film.

Instead, what we got is the most hopeful and optimistic ending possible: Sherry starting, just starting, to come back down to earth, and to think about what's best not just for herself, but for others. We know there are no guarantees, but she is still young, and we're left with the glimmer of hope that this young woman will develop into a mature, caring adult.

I too feel sorry for those people who just don't "get it". But they're certainly out there, in numbers massive enough to ensure that the Hollywood drivel machine keeps churning out its product at full speed, every now and then spitting out a crumb of decent material for the rest of us.

If you people didn't like the ending then you probably wouldn't like a David Cronenberg movie.

I agree. The movie ended fine. Today's generation needs (and wants) everything spoon fed to them.

reply

I am not sure how it could be wrapped up per se. It was a window glimpse in the life of a character.

I to like endings where i know what happens, but as viewers speak our thoughts on this we are bombarded with comments of what you see on this bored. if you like the ending then fine for you, but because some did not that does not mean you have to make there comment something that should not have been said. I wish posters would just say they liked or disliked the film and why and leave it at that. There is no reason to add personal statements towards some one else's comments because you feel the ending was perfect or right for you.

I'd like a million bucks but I live in the real world. And seeing as this is the internet, lamont, I don't think that's happening any time soon.

And there was closure in the end of the film. Sherry realized that she needed help and that she couldn't just have whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it. She needed to work for it. And with that I see it as a very hopeful ending, if not a happy one.
