PURSUE LIKE AN ELIXIR

I cannot believe the nerve of someone titling their thread as "avoid as the plague." I had to even out the score, here... I thoroughly ate this movie up. I've been jaded on some Asian horror films as of late, but this one rejuvenated my faith in something with originality and zest of taste.

The film and it's concepts must've gone over the author of the "Avoid this film like a plague"'s post. They're telling people to avoid the film, and most likely also using quotes to back himself up. So he doesn't feel so bad about being too stupid to comprehend this amazing film.

right! he would be a lemming, sad to say... I wonder what he considers good film-making?

lol, watching it now on Netflix. It's good stuff. Actually, it's more than I expected. Oh well, every movie on imdb needs some dolt saying "worst movie ever" or the like.

Personally i thought this was the best Sci-Fi(ish) movies ive seen in a decade.
The creativity that is in the movie is outstanding and given that this movie probably had a budget similar to that of one episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine i will say that the execution and resourcefulness was top notch.

Most people are comparing the feeling and setting to that of Cube but i have yet to hear anyone mention that it also has a very Orwell '1984ish style to it.

Well, this film was definitely not my cup of tea, so to speak - but I just wanted to say that I got a good laugh out of the two thread titles.

Yeah, this one had some zest and ambition. Not really a match for the top-notch blockbusters, but if you take it as a good presentation with possibilities, then yeah, it's an elixir. Definitely an antidote to alot of the horror movies I've seen lately.....it's like they have too much of an established language or rhetoric that doesn't allow for certain things that will turnoff focus groups. I would only barely call this horror- more sci-fi or totalitarian futurism, but that's really beside the point. Definitely this one has originality and a pretty good look. Believable at least. I also like that it kind of has a large scope and tries to put alot of dissimilar parts together (police state, mental illness, incarceration, Japanese society's excessive politeness/shame, surveillance). Maybe it overreaches but at least it doesn't really pander or insult our lowest common denominator intelligence level.

I hope you can find a reason to like this movie instead of watching Matrix Revolutions again.
