Yeah, this one had some zest and ambition. Not really a match for the top-notch blockbusters, but if you take it as a good presentation with possibilities, then yeah, it's an elixir. Definitely an antidote to alot of the horror movies I've seen lately.....it's like they have too much of an established language or rhetoric that doesn't allow for certain things that will turnoff focus groups. I would only barely call this horror- more sci-fi or totalitarian futurism, but that's really beside the point. Definitely this one has originality and a pretty good look. Believable at least. I also like that it kind of has a large scope and tries to put alot of dissimilar parts together (police state, mental illness, incarceration, Japanese society's excessive politeness/shame, surveillance). Maybe it overreaches but at least it doesn't really pander or insult our lowest common denominator intelligence level.
I hope you can find a reason to like this movie instead of watching Matrix Revolutions again.
