How is RDJ?

How is Robert Downey Jr in this film? I really admire his talents but this movie is just average looking to me. Is it worth seeing?

You really don't know it's him until the end she shaves him. His voice is very distinguishing but that's the thing that lets you know it is him.

All in all this is a very dark and bizarre movie. The movie is basically about RDJ's character's role in Diane becoming a photographer of "freaks" for lack of a better word.

Indeed, deem714. I'll admit that the very first time I saw this film, I had no idea that Lionel was portrayed by RDJ until the last half of the film. Though, I thought to myself that his voice sounded rather familiar. During that scene where Diane cuts off and shaves his hair, when his face is finally revealed, I was like, "Whoa. Robert?". Even when I watch it again and again, I STILL get tricked by him! Despite his voice, his mannerisms, movements, and performance had me fooled! Gosh! He's such an excellent actor.

If you love RDJ and/or his work you absolutely have to see this movie. I wasn't sure about it at first, but after seeing it in its entirety, and then seeing it again and again I realized it is one of his greatest performances. (I think I've seen 40 or so of his 70-plus feature films... He is definitely my favorite actor.) This film is very different, but definitely worth seeing on many levels. It convinced me on Nicole Kidman whom I had been back and forth on for quite a while, the love story is heart-breaking (and fascinating), and the music score is unforgettable!
