Goof? or Laziness?? Why didn't his hair grow back?

Remember in an earlier scene, when he was describing to her how his illness came about... he would shave and it would grow back so quickly it was pointless to keep it up...

Later on when he's dying, he wants her to shave him -- all of him. He stays relatively clean shaven until he goes into the water... with the exception of a 5:00 shadow right before he dives in.

I asked myself the very same question; and there's also the fact that we can see the shaved beard (you know the "shadow" of the beard) but nowhere else do we see that "shadow"; and it is very impressive how she managed to leave out a perfectly shaped eyebrow with the perfect length. But I guess that's the movie biz. (or else we might have not found lionel to be so charming after all)

I'm pretty sure that hypertrichosis is a disorder where hair grows everywhere, not necessarily in speedy quantities. I do agree with you though, that depending on the time span between scenes, he should have had a "five-o-clock" shadown all over his body. For all we know, as far as the characters and story are concerned, they could have "re-shaven him" in-between.

The eyebrows and the lack of a 5:00 shadow over the whole body was a minor technicality that I noticed but didn't focus too much on.
But from the time she shaved him to the scene in the ocean was less than 24 hours. So while he did say his hair grew back quickly, I guess it didn't grow back that quickly.

Mine grows back quicker and that is the reason why I wrote this thread.

I can't shave my legs every day -- because I will rip myself to shreds. I have to wait about a week or more and then take off the bear fur.

Probably hit the ocean less than 12 hours after he was shaved. Even very fast growing hair would not be too noticeable after 12 hours. His comment about the shaving barely being worth it was probably more of an exaggeration. I bet in 24 hours he might notice stubble in places and kept up the shave to prevent it from getting too long but in 12 hours he would not turn back.
