Butterfly theme throughout the movie

I was surprised to see no one had commented on this (although maybe I missed it). Lots of butterflies throughout the movie. Saw several in the hospital (window clings, I think) and also the autistic child gave her a drawing of one.

There was another example or two, but now I can't think of them.

Yes! And when Calista Flockheart goes up to find Maggie on the 2nd floor, as she finds Maggie, on the door is a burnt outline of a butterfly!

reply

YES! You're right! I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! lol

reply

yes, but what does it mean???

reply

Many people see butterflies as a representation of freedom or escape. They are confined/restrained while cocooned then 'break out' and fly away. It is the same for some other insect, but butterflies are usually considered the prettiest. They may end up pinned to a board, but kids don't usually view things that way.

Or it could be just because lots of kids like butterflies.

The wild, cruel animal is not behind the bars of a cage. He is in front of it.

I thought maybe because butterflies are somewhat fragile.

Probably that too.
