I don't know...

I wish this movie did more to show the bond between Luce and Rachel beyond just having some kind of unspoken insta-connection with eye contact. I mean, I found myself saying okay so...she helped get her ring out of the punch at the wedding...they had a dinner with everyone together....they spend one night at a sports game and did some arcade dancing, eventually kissed on some thorns...and then it's all this "Don't forget me" "You're all I'll ever remember" kind of stuff. What, the sports game lol? I'm being kind of stubborn here, but they were acting as if they had some really deep bond and had gone through a lot together, which would justify the grand ending... but really it was just an instant (so far substance-less) draw to the other and then a few instances of interaction together after that.

I don't mean that Rachel should have stayed with Hec, because maybe, if nothing else, Luce just made Rachel realize Heck wasn't "enough" for her deep down. But I wasn't buying the "love" between Luce and Rachel. It seemed more just like an attraction...not necessarily even sexual, but just a little appeal and desire to be around the other that was worth pursuing. But not "love"... When they started mentioning how the two were "in love"...that's when I had a problem. We didn't see enough to support that. I saw that Luce made Rachel realize she wanted more, she wanted that connection (or at least to follow that route and see how it plays out), etc, instead of staying loyal to and 'stuck with' Hec. If they had framed the movie that way, I would have "bought" it. Or, if they DID want to go the "love" route, they should have demonstrated more of a bond and more time spent between them.

In any case I like that the movie made Hec a nice guy who really did care about his wife. And not just an obvious dick which would make it "easy" to support cheating on him and leaving him. I think my favorite scene is when the little girl declined going with the family for Rachel's romantic "must stop Luce going to te airport and profess my love" so that she could go up and talk to Hec, because she saw he was sad. I'm like aww, someone cares about the "loser" in this situation and sees he needs comfort and someone recognizing his side. She didn't just let him get ignored during the "yay true love can now be fulfilled!!!" celebratory moment.

Well at least someone here has a decent head stapled atop their shoulders.

It sure beats all the chirping and buzzing from the usual suspects talking about how great the movie is just because it's pro-LGBTQIA+.
