It's kind of ridiculous and ignorant to consider this movie a desperate attempt at Top Gun a movie I can't stand anyway, Tom Cruise is not a big seller for me
This movie "Les Chevaliers Du Ciel" which roughly translate into "The Sky Knights" is a comic book film adaptation of the original series "Tanguy et Laverdure" a series that exist since 1961
It's not to be pedantic, but I feel like I have to correct the spelling so you can spell them correctly next time. The fighters you are refering to are Rafale(s) and Super Etendard(s), the Rafale appear shortly in the beginning of the movie but the Super Etendard isn't shown at all. For the Aircraft carrier, it's Charles de Gaulle :).
I agree the French fighters look sleek but the Rafale got to be one of the sexiest looking aircraft fighter around.

Another one that likes them big, stiff and hard!
In Chevaliers Du Ciel, the planes are shown as what they are, just high tech military hardware, while in Top Gun the planes were shown as kinky fetishistic sex-shop hardware, as penis substitutes for people in desperation for dick enhancement.
If you ask me, i take chevaliers Du Ciel anyday of the week. Maybe it's because those that made this movie actually cared about entertaining the audiences instead of the filmmakers of Top Gun that were more interested in con the audiences. I rather take the first perspective, if you know what i mean.
"A good movie is three good scenes and no bad scenes" Howard Hawks
An up-to-date French Top Gun with better aerial sequences but with similar lame story, comic relief buddy team, cliched music, and love interest. Why can't they make a realistic fighter pilot movie without the love story and banal scenarios? A fellow, female fighter pilot doing a strip dance on a WWII Corsair? Yeah, right.
Didn't notice any Rafaels in this just plenty of Mirage 2000's and one sequence with a two-seat Alpha Jet.
Worth viewing for air enthusiasts just for the aerial sequences which are quite good.
didnt like this much. lots of similarities with top gun, but not good. the aerial combat was all sped up which really annoyed me, as they otherwise could have been very good. super speeding up the shots made no sense to me. as for the planes, well, im not a big fan of the mirage, or delta wing planes (eurofighter is another one). however, they are capable of extreme maneouvrability because of those wings, and could have made for some very sweet combat. too bad it wasnt utilised
Compare to Top Gun, Les Chevaliers Du Ciel is just one freaking clever masterpiece and nothing less; and not just the sky visual flying aspect of the whole thing but also the story which is also amazing, and the actors are right on the button on every lines of the scripts, delivering perfection
VERY COOL FILM!
This is the kind of high quality work and film crew in every aspect I would like to see someday for such great classic novel and comic book icons like Bob Morane, the ultimate European action hero
This is an incredibly cool film. Its comparison to Top Gun is just a marketing ploy directed at the American market. I had to buy a US region 1 dvd as it's the only one with English subtitles available, so it clearly sells State-side.
An hour isn't an hour but a little bit of eternity in our hands
First, this movie is nowhere a desperate attempt, it stands on it's own. Second, it is not quite the same style. Both share similarities, nothing more.
