What a stupid movie. - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) Discussion

I thought it tried a bit too hard. The dialogue was annoying, as if every line in the movie had to be deeply important.

So did I. Why do some people think every movie have to have "realistic" dialogue? Sometimes movies are meant to be written this way and clearly this one was.

I'd have to agree. It just was NOT a very good movie. People can blame the script, but a lot of this falls on Fincher. He can try to cast pretty and popular actors, shoot it in a very pretty classical style, cake on the visual effects, but if the story and characters and drama just aren't compelling, there's no hiding that.

This is one of those movies that was supposed to be good and tried so hard to be Oscar bait, but in the end, people saw through the veneer at what was a pretty silly and empty film.

I agree.

I loved this movie. So sad. So well made & appeals to people who do not think AVATAR was clever & unique.
Plus those pathetic Marvel sheep fan boys who just eat crap.

1 of the best films of that year.

It's just beyond most people who watch Fox News.

It's beyond my level of coping with dull, boring, lengthy and slow. I don't get your reference re Fox News; I don't think we have it in the UK, but I don't much care for the Marvel comic films either. To be honest, I prefer films from the 1940s and 1950s where even though the actors are American one can understand them (this one seriously needs subtitles for an English audience) and are much better paced and edited. I'm watching it as I type and I seriously think I'm just going to give up on it, life's just too short.

It was set in Naw'lins. Cajuns, Creole, redneck hicks and plain ol' deep south suthun'uhs. Makes for quite the accent.

And that's something a lot of Brits need to understand: there is no one American accent, we all don't sound like cowboys. Im sure there are plenty of Americans that had a hard time understnading the dialog.

Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

I agree 100%. I only watched this movie because a friend wanted to see it. After it was over I dug out my F. Scott Fitzgerald short story anthology and read the real version, which is short, funny and interesting, everything the movie is not.

I found the movie intriguing. It speaks to the heart of true love, family, caring, duty, and compassion. Its one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
