i heard he proposed to her? can anyone give me a fairly detailed overview of the last episode?

reply

yeah Michael did proprose to her and he wanted her to live in London but once he got there, she rejected it because she had Katherine over after her relationship was sadly destroyed.

After, Edie went over to London using Astrids money (she gave to her) and wanted to talk things over with Michael, they slept together and began to talk about having to settle in one city.

Edie suggested that he should stay over in New York but Michael refused as he had responsibilities with Angelo and the promotion. So they argued and giving negative points to each other and finally, Edie threw a book called "To kill a mockingbird" where the students gave to her as a present and saying that she helped all those people and also threw the wedding ring as well. Michael had his head in his hands and Edie stormed out of his flat and ran towards somewhere.

And that was the end of the relationship, although Edie tried calling Mike once more by leaving a message saying "Hey, its me............call me................"

The show finished by Edie and Mike looking over the water in their own cities in a quite depressed mood.

I think this is correct from what I remember watching anyways

reply

that is exactly what happened!!!!!! did they? didn't they? Oh and Luke and astrid aren't together in anyway even though they slept together she just kinda dismissed it as sex and nothing more.

reply

I think Astrid was very clearly hoping it was going to be more, she'd had a few chances with Luke when he was more upset & vulnerable but didn't grab them, suggesting she wanted to wait for the right time with this guy as she really could see a potential relationship developing. It was only when she saw Luke with another girl she put a brave face on it, but it seemed clear to me she was really hurting. Astrid (thanks to a great performance by Rachel Miner) was easily my favourite character, Edie & Michael could both be annoying & felt more like stereotypes to portray types of people rather than real individuals at times. Astrid seemed more complex & real to me - angry with Edie one minute for an astronomical phone bill & giving a load of her money for a plane ticket for her to try & work things out the next. That also seemed to me an indication of her own despair - that Luke had been another guy who just had sex with her & wanted nothing more, the fact Edie & Michael might have had a chance at happiness she couldn't just let it slip away, it's not as if she was loaded, just a really good friend who wanted to believe it could work out for someone even if not her. I bet it not working out for them sent her further into depression. It seems pretty certain from postings elsewhere that there's not likely to be another series but if there was I'd prefer it to be centred on her!

I absolutely agree with you! Michael, and, especially Edie, were a bit flat with their characters, whilst Astride really felt like the only character with some depth to her. She gave so much to Edie as a friend, even though she had a crush on Luke... she's just so sweet and unpredictable, I felt sorry for her when she realized Luke wasn't into her and said "everyone f cks me" with a smile on her face... I think I heard her heart break in that moment :-(

Regarding the final NY-LON episode, is there any chance you could tell me what the "love song" being played in the episode was callled??? I really like it and am having great difficulty finding the song or the artist who sings it. It was playing when Mike leaves Edie's in a huff (again!) and is on the street contemplating life.

reply

The song after Edie turns Mike's offer of marriage down and storms out of her flat?

The song played then whilst Mike walks around NY in a bit of a state is by Sia and is called 'Breathe me'. The song is on the NY-LON soundtrack album (track 17). You can listen to a sample of it on the HMV uk website, just search for the NY-LON soundtrack album.

Hope that helps a bit.

I just watched the last episode and it felt unfinished to me as if the show was canceled before it could finish :-/ It's a shame because i've really enjoyed it there's some good writing and acting involved and i like the way it's shot too

I'm not interested in the remake i like the actors for the original. It's a bit of a bummer grrr lol

reply

I'm sure you've probably seen it by now :) But I just watched it on Netflix. I'm so bummed about the ending.

reply

I literally just finished it on Netflix too. Sucks that it didnt continue.

The last episode was clearly setting up to spill things over to a second series. The Edie/Michael relationship is left unresolved, so is Astrid/Luke. Instead to wrapping things up, they postponed everything. Ironically, the absence of a second series makes the "ending" more realistic and believable, if a little (or a lot) sad.

They can totally do a 2nd series now with a 6years later bit. Eg they bump into each other again, etc. I can't see Edie getting married or in a stable relationship.. Michael hmm possibly in a relationship with the friend who has a huge crush on him. Edie is quite nonsensical but it seemed like it had to do with her past which was too long to explain :/
She's right in some ways.. They needed their relationship to mature but micheals gut instinct just felt so right. I really wished they were together in the end. There's so many reasons why Edie should have left NYC but she's mad, a d michael likes it apparently.

I had hoped that they could have ended up together. Edie didn't needed to stay in NYC and she kinda acted as though she wanted to find some reason to reject his proposal.

English Male. Single. 28. (Not an Ad!)

I caught glimpses of this back in 2004(?) when it was first televised and thought it was worth a watch if it ever came back on again. Well, I forgot about it until just a week ago as my 'potential' move from England to NY reminded me of the series. I could't find it on DVD so I 'surfed' and was pleased to find it on 4oD. Here comes my appraisal of it:

I felt there was one or two inconsistencies in the two main characters. Edie's dress sense meandered a bit from Hobo, to Ho, to Classy (not a huge problem to be fair).

Michael started off as a proper womanising pr!ck and softened up to become not much more than a lovesick puppy who put up with far too much from Edie. I identified with Michael more and more each episode but felt he got a bit too soft.

Edie started off as a sweet girl pining for her former love, Luke, and it seemed like Michael was odds on to break her heart. But Edie got very tough, selfish and cruel in the end and she broke Michael's heart and perhaps her own due to her own character flaws. Not very in keeping with the early Edie.

I liked Astrid and found her the most real character. I felt more sad for Astrid than Edie in the end. And when she said, "Everyone f cks me!" Oh, poor thing! I wanted to give her a cuddle.

Casting all that aside, I liked the show. I'm an old romantic at heart so was nonetheless saddened by the ending. We don't watch these things for them not to get together in the end. They're supposed to learn how to love one another!!!

I honestly thought they'd iron out the massive kinks in their 'relationship'. Maybe in the end they were just too different and too far apart to meet in the middle (Wouldn't that put them in the middle of the Pond?!)

I'd be happy if they made a 2nd series, but I fear just like Michael and Edie, it's not meant to be. :-(

I just thought Edie was a B**** from the gitgo. As Michael said, she was in love with being poor. The show was too repetitious. My guy said he couldn't believe I was watching it, it was so dumb, but there was just something about Michael...
