Something about NY-LON

Been waiting for some posts from the people who are lucky enough to see the series. Not much Online about the show. From the little I've seen it looks like most viewer response is positive, but ratings are not high. Is this true? Any comments? So curious. I was hoping it would be a hit and come to the US.

Hopefully it would become successful like 24 but I don't think it will, I really love this show and its really an addictive drama!

I guess the low ratings are low because the time isn't really suituble to everybody's convinience but I hope that isn't true.

I hope that it would come out on DVD/Video, I would definately like to see it again totally!

Hopefully a success in the US :D

Thanks for the reply. I was glad to hear that you love the show. Hope we get the chance to become addicted here in the US as well. *sigh*

Funny that you mentioned 24, it was almost cancelled in its first year (which is why Season One has that crazy bump where everything seemed to be solved and then all of a sudden everyone got back in jeopardy). So, maybe they will give NY-LON time to find an audience, too. Don't know enough about UK TV or Ch. 4 to know if they would give it a chance to grow or give up on it.

As for the hour, from some of what I've been reading it has material that wouldn't fly at an earlier time, at least here in the US that means a 10:00 PM slot.

I hope it comes out on DVD/video, too. I wonder would they do that for only one season? Or would it depend on more than a year's worth being made? And they probably wouldn't make them for our region unless it gets shown here anyway.

Ooh, the unsatisfied curiosity! *g*

I have watched all episodes so far but cant say it is an unmissable program. It passes on 60 mins or so!

reply

well its 50 mins an episode (excluding Commercials) so 50x7 comes to 350 mins approx.!

That means that its like over 6 hours of episodes, don't see why not it should be release on DVD!

Hope so! Thanx.

i think one of the main problems was that Channel four put it on at 10 o'clock but had nothing of interest before AND the advertising over here was shocking, i think they only advertised it at its launch but didn't do like reminder ads in the week. I loved the show, it was writing like no other show, and the filming was brilliant! i loved everything about this show, it was if anything frustrating because you wanted the characters to get together so badly!!!!

Glad to read that you liked the show. It sounded so promising, and the first viewers responses were quite good (on other boards, etc.). Then the haters started in and everyone else got kind of muted. Thanks for having the courage to state your feelings. I had been hoping it would come to the US (as I wrote in my original post). Doesn't seem likely now. :(

I thought the show hit an awesome standard at Episode Three, unfortunatey this proved to be its pinnacle. The first two episodes were really quite excellent and built up the intensity between the two leads superbly. Episode Three was exceptional, with writing, acting and direction of the highest standard. Unfortunately it was all downhill for the remaining four episodes and the whole thing virtually lowered itself to soap opera standard. Nothing was resolved between any of the leading charachters and one is left with a huge empty void, fully realising that what had started out with such promise had ended without any kind of meaningful conclusion, either story-wise or charachter-wise. As much as I enjoyed the show(and I did very much) I don't want to see a second series. Seven episodes was more than enough time to properly develop this wonderful little love story. It over-stretched itself and as such the charachters have lost a little of their appeal.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Along with the West Wing on E4, it became, briefly, one of my mainstay programmes of the week. I was disappointed at the ending, though, as I thought there should have been some sort of resolution. The ending actually reminded me of the first series of Cold Feet, which had a similiar 'up in the air' ending, obviously hoping for a second series. That series was recommissioned. I doubt, however, that NY-LON will be. Channel 4 have gone downhill so much that if something is not an instant hit, it is consigned to a late night slot. Peak viewing to Channel 4 now is reality rubbish. This from the channel that prided itself on being innovative. Look at all the top notch American series that are on so late at night while between 8 and 10pm we get reality, property and style rubbish. God help us. NY-LON was a programme they made themselves and it seems they did not consider it a hit, otherwise it would've been repeated on E4 immediately, going by earlier behaviour from Channel 4. I am convinced that it will be scrapped, and that's a shame.

Spoiler! There was a resolution. Just not a happy ending.
