Better Than 'The Office' (Amer. Version)

Did anyone else find "Committed" a much better show than "The Office" (American Version)?

"The Office" is NOT AT ALL FUNNY, despite the number of reviews that stated the contrary. Sure, "Committed" wasn't the BEST show, but at least I had quite a few laughs with "Committed".

"Funny" is one thing--yeah, there may be more things to laugh *at* in The Office, but after just two episodes it's just getting annoying. I like Steve Carrell, but "yeah, my character's an idiot and he doesn't realize it" gets tired quick. The only characters who seem like decent people are that secretary and the guy with the crush on her, but they're mostly there to be victimized by the a-holes in the cast. It's a mean show, simply put--to refer to someone's earlier thread, it's not Committed, it's The Office that has "no soul." And yeah, sometimes I'm in the mood for mean humor, and one can get more creative with being mean than being nice. But Committed made me feel *good* in addition to making me laugh, and for all their nuttiness the five characters of Committed are still nicer to have around. This is the kind of show I want to relax to in the middle of a work week. God, I miss this program.

I think Committed had a lot of potential that it did not fully live up to yet (part of its problem). But The Office is a great show.

In a perfect world, both shows would get renewed. But then again, Arrested Development, the best show on network TV is in trouble, so clearly, things are far from perfect.

I agree that "Arrested Development" is a great show. In fact, it's a perfect illustration of what I hate about "The Office" (U.S., at least)--it's populated with a comparable set of dysfunctional characters who do stupid and annoying things, but the show itself is built around Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), a likable guy with noble intentions and good sense, a protagonist we can root for. "The Office" is built around a one-schtick "moron boss" character, and potentially human characters like Pam, the intern guy and the assorted nameless employees are pretty much just whipping boys/girls for Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and Dwight.

Yeah I hate The office. It's just not funny!!!!

Actually, I like all three shows that have been mentioned in this post. They all have made me laugh, which is unusual with most sitcoms today. (I currently am watching the original British version of "The Office," and I've been surprised at how much of the original had been lifted by the American writers, not just the premise and the episode plots, but even the dialogue and the jokes.) It's too bad that not all three will be renewed for next season.

The fact that Committed was cancelled in favour of The Office just makes my soul cry. I cannot believe anyone wants The Office to stay on the air. It’s one of the most blatantly unfunny show I’ve seen in years. I can get more laughs from a freakin’ episode of Yes, Dear or According to Jim!

NBC wants to reclaim it’s high rated sitcom glory by cancelling the only originally sitcom that debuted on any network this year? In favour of what…Joey? I realize Committed seemed to really split people, they loved it or hated, but I have yet to meet a single fan of Joey.

mikejonas - I’ve got to agree with what you said. The characters on The Office are just outright mean. Sometimes characters on Committed would do mean or rude things, but it was never with the intention of doing something evil to someone. Add that to the fact that Committed had more laughs in 30 seconds of it than how many are derived from 2 episodes of The Office and this just really pisses me off.
