Here's a possible explanation

The Vatican obviously has no sense of humor.
Pissed off the Pope, apparently.
Here it is:

I am a Protestant minister with a Masters degree in theology and I thought the episode was hilarious! While irreverent I don't think that it was a case of "choosing to mock, trivialize, or ridicule." The characters, Bowie and Nate, both of different belief systems, recognized the importance of the event. They showed respect in trying to deal with an awkward situation. Nate being a Jew, could have been very unconcerned about its symbolism. However, the most important thing is that it was freaking funny. It is a comedy, they were not blasphemous or crude. God laughs at us all the time. I think the catholics need to follow His lead.

Oh good grief. I get so tired of ppl whining and crying because their feelings get hurt. Saying that NBC has made a "direct frontal assult" and that the Catholic's "outrage is visceral and intense" is almost laughable if it weren't so sad. Seems lately you can't sneeze without offending someone. I'm tired of worrying about stepping on someone's toes. Like the other person said in this post..ppl need to learn how to laugh and stop finding every little things to get their panties in a bunch about.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard...since when does this Pope have a say in TV?

Haven't you heard? The Pope has a lot to say in TV. He is the number 1 film and movie critic. The Ratzinger Review. I can't believe he only gave the Passion 4 out of 5 crosses!

You've got to be *beep* kidding me. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these people. Ruin a great show because some people got offended? I don't care if they ask for an apology, but thinking it should be 'retired' for good? That is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I would like to punch every person that complained about that episode in the face.

"Everything they do is so dramatic and flamboyant. It just makes me want to set myself on fire."

If this is this is the true reason the show was canceled, it makes me embarassed to be a human.

reply

don't worry, the show was canceled due to nonexistent ratings. I think it topped out at like 5 mil or something like that.

your wrong. They started out with 11 million viewers for there first night. Its when NBC decided to switch its time slots and kill the show for good by airing it the SAME TIME AS AMERICAN IDOL so they could hype up The Office, a show that they had high hopes for. It was cancelled due to politics.

im a catholic, and the catholic league doesnt represents no one other than their own asses, they dont represent rome, the pope, god, catholics around the world or my ass.
its not the first time this guys make noise about tv comedies.
really they are not to be taken seriously
notice that press release doesnt mention or quote the pope or any other catholic autorithy.

So, since the Pope was offended by this show, thus causing it to be cancelled, should we also cancel the Office for offending people who work in offices? Should we also cancel My Name Is Earl for making fun of red necks? Should we also cancel Scrubs for making fun of doctors and sick people? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. People make fun of religious people all the time. I am not condoning it. But, if we tilt at windmills and do away with everything that offends people, we will have to go back to the dark ages.

Where will you spend eternity?
