am i the only person who hated this movie!

well, i would'nt say i hated it. but the acting was terrible. the storyline was smart, but the acting ruins the film. i was laughing the whole time. not at the story, at the acting. people thought i was crazy.

I thought it was just a mess, a terrible mess. I found a lot of plot holes, and the acting (above all) was HORRIBLE.

It was slow, but I didn't hate it.

I must agree, the acting was particularly stale. I liked the story overall, but, as always, it takes competent acting, directing, and editing to bring even the most poignant of stories to film. 'Pearl Diver' had none of the above.

I think it sucks and wish I hadn't wasted the money to rent it.

This movie and story had sOoo much potential...but I do agree,,,the acting was dismal, at best....I do not know how this film was nominated for or won any awards...

I think probably you don't know many farmers from the midwest, especially Mennonite farmers or those of a similar conservative religion. Hang around some of those folks for a while and I think you'll see the acting was pretty good.

Well stated indeed!! A good story will carry a film-the acting was excellent for the price-I mean filmed in less than 3 wks-Good work!!!

Just made the mistake of renting and wasting my time watching this movie. It was offensive on many levels, the acting was mediocre but the plot of having a father deny the opportunity for his seriously injured daughter to have medical treatment by taking her fishing or the younger sister pressuring her older sister not to publish a potentially great novel because she couldn't face the truth and talk about it were even more offensive. Families that refuse to share and talk about their experiences will always have problems. The only redeeming qualities of the movie were the landscape and sunset shots. Don't waste your time on this one...
