In michelles/max's life before she/he lost his virginity and started shifting from boy to girl, was she/he a boy or a girl? I guess what I'm trying to say is what did michelle/mas grow up as?
this is a question that a couple of other posts have attempted to answer. in my opinion, i think that Michelle came first, simply because of the way she behaves.

Yeah I would definitely say Michelle came first. Just because of the fact that she chooses to be with Luke and the way she acts.
shareI thought it was pretty obvious that Max was the "original" since Michelle is referred to as the new girl in town from New York a couple of times in the beginning. Max also says that's where she went back to near the end. Also, Max seems already established with his garage business.
Then again, Michelle says something like "What is it with this town, is there something in the water?" kind of implying that s/he IS new in town and not using New York as a way to explain her presence.
