Spoiler! JJ's kids?

I was reading on buddy TV about JJ and it says, "The Kansas compound is swarming with his inbred children."

Why didnt JJ's kids have any mutations/defects?
Is that why Wanda hated him?

reply

Because the mutation defect thing is largely urban legend.

Unless the biological parents have the defects already in their genetic code it isn't magically going to turn up at an increased rate of any other pairing, genetics don't have morality in regards to being related. As it is, it's estimated the most distantly related people alive today are only 50th cousins, most people if they are marrying within race/religion/country are likely married to someone within 5th to 20th cousin...I mean do you know who you're 3rd or 4th cousins are?

What's unusual in what's shown though is the lack of JJ's lack of fingernails being passed on, it would be expected to be more common, at the very least all his children would be carrying the defect and see it's incidence increase dramatically within the next few generations.

With that said, if a brother and a sister had no defects in their dna, they could inbreed with issue beyond the extremely rare chance at mutation, it's just no one (yet) has been found to have non defective genes carried so sibling pairings just result in the increased chance of these being passed on.

Uh, yeah. That is not that far away of a relation. A third cousin would be your grandparents first cousin or your great aunts grandchildren, if you can't keep track of that then that is definitely weird. Your post I just littered with inaccurate information.

I think that depends on the culture you grew up in. I have met four second cousins at the odd funeral or large wedding, but I definitely would not know my third or fourth cousins if I met them. As it is, I see my first cousins so rarely that I'm not sure I'd recognize all of them on the street.

In today's world of nuclear families that spread out across states and countries, it is definitely not weird not to know extended family.

What? Your family is an exception to the majority as it is silly to think that one would not know or meet 2nd 3rd ect. cousins. Unless there were problems or the family members are all recluse, that is very strange. It would take great effort or simply indifference to not know family outside of the 1st cousins even if spread across the world. You can't apply your family dynamic as if it is a common trait because it really isnt.

What country do you live in? My three siblings and I live in four different states, and none of our first cousins live in any of our states. My parents' families were the same. And most of my friends' families are the same. There's just too much opportunity in the US for families to stay all in one place.

For this one, I got the impression that JJ did worse to Wanda, growing up, than his more widespread genetic "experiments" in a lab.
